A halal sign is clearly visible on the premises of this restaurant. From the owner: 'Our meat is 100% halal. We purchase halal meat from QG Meat Ltd and they in turn get the meat supply from Sargent Farms Ltd. We do not take the meat supply directly from Sargent Farns Ltd. The certificate for confirmation is sealed by our supplier QG Meat Ltd. The alcohol is kept outside in the dining area and comes in no contact with the food being prepared.'
China Cottage offers unique Indian and Pakistani style Chinese and Thai cuisine in a comfortable setting. We also serve Halal food. We offer take-out 10% off on cash pick-up orders (over $20.00 before tax) and catering (Party Trays).

I enjoyed the Pad Thai and Chicken Hakka Noodles the most. Very tasty and decent prices.
Horrible service. Sat forever without even being acknowledged by a server. Prices were quite high compared to other Hakka style restaurants. The food was really bad too. Definite DO NOT RECOMMEND
assalamualaikum brothers and sisters, just want to clarify that china cottage claims to be halaal at some level with some of their meat but then when i asked abt the certificate or where they get their meat then they gave me a nice looking certificate that did state that the meat was halaal from sergent farms and then i was still curious about it so i called the number on it and it was sergent farms and then i asked abt the procedure and what not and everything was legit until i asked if they were supplying china cottage and to my surprise they did not and the person whose name was on it had left the company years ago as well and they also told me that sergent farms themselves never issue any certification to any of their buyer. and they also serve alchohol. hope that will help you on judging whether you want to eat there or not. JazakAllah.
I see a lot of negative remarks although personally been there about 6 times and everything was really good. Good food, good servce and very nice dining setup. Would go again anyday!
Went to the new Steeles W location last night with my family. The service was horrible. We were seated straight away but waited 20min for a menu. Wait staff were very rushed and quite rude. Didn't seem like they cared at all. We called on them several times for a menu but they would just say wait! They forgot some of our dishes and instead of apologizing made faces and sly remarks! Had to get up myself to go get drinks. Food was not good at all. Very bland and really not much flavour. The Tom Yam soup was horrible. The ginger beef had absolutely no flavour. The fried rice was oily. And the worst.. the chicken 88 (boneless) had small pcs of bone! Portions were big though. We ate 10% and couldn't eat any more so we left. Service was so terrible, a family of 6 who were waiting for a table almost got into a fight with the server because he was so rude! And he didn't care at all! The owners really should put some effort into at least hiring better staff. Would never return again and would not recommend.
Worst Chinese food ever! The place looks great but their food was crap. I threw out 80% of what I ordered.
Went to their Steele's location. Ordered the following: <Vegetable Rolls>, <Chicken Pakoras>, <Manchurian Chicken>, <Pepper Shrimp>, <Chicken Fried Rice>. Ambiance: Excellent. Food: Average: Chicken Pakoras was the least. favourite. Shrimp dish was quite good. Service: Excellent. <br/> Overall not a good place to eat but the food is average.
Wife and I eat there all the time. I recently asked the manager if halal food needs to be requested and he said that they switched over to just halal food a few years ago. Just speak to the manager if you have any doubts about it being halal. As for the food, I've never had any problems from the food. Price is average and taste is good. I would recommend you try the chili chicken, veggie pakoras, and the hot garlic chicken. MJ
Very unhealthy and tasteless hakka food. Should be Nepalese Restuarant. We all had a terrible upset stomach after eating. And the service is very poor. Atmosphere is like fish market, no peace. Cannot enjoy with your family.
food is less and taste bland, I heard from someone that mostly nepali chefs are working inside so I don't think its authentic chinese anymore
Other than the soup, which was really good, the food didn't have much taste (ordered the tom yum chicken soup, beef w/vegetables, garlic chicken, chicken fried rice, and chicken chow mein). The service was delayed as well and the plates had to be replaced because they weren't cleaned well. Later realized this place also serves alcohol so I'm not even sure if its totally halal. Will avoid this (and similar) places in the future inshaAllah.
This restaurant is a favourite amongst my coworkers for hakka restaurants. The food is delicious, well priced. The restaurant is clean the service is fast. You do have to ask for halal when ordering but i'm sure that will change if more muslims continue to eat at this restaurant and continue to ask for halal meat.
This place use to be one of my favourite halal Chinese restaurants, even though you must ask for the halal food. But recently I don't know for what ever reason the food quality is going bad very fast. But it still is average even now to my view.
I doubt that the place is halal. went with my friends and we ordered chciken noodles which smelled a lot. asked if they are halal and the waiter said u only get halal if u request it since we have both halal and non halal...well, then wts the authticity that u arent mixing up?... please avoid eating at such places...
Excellent food, value for money, lovely peaceful environment with dim lighting. Very fast service, although they need to expand the place because its always busy at night, be prepared to wait for at least 20 mins before you can get a table
I am not sure whether this restaturant even qualifies to be featured at zabihah.com. Do you want to eat at a place where you have to ASK the waiter to serve you halal meat, otherwise they would go ahead and serve you non-zabihah food? Decide for yourself.
This food had no taste. How can you mess up with deep fried chicken wings? They did! The rice had no taste, the squid was deep fried to get crispy....then it was soaked...DRENCHED in sauce to get to soggy. The presentation of food was very poor as well. There was barely and banana in my 6-7 pieces of fried banana ice cream with just one scoop of ice cream. This food was expensive. The only good points about htis place are it is cozy and service is fast and friendly. They will not get my business again.
amazing food, amazing staff, they do speak english, been there many times. good portions, even though might have to wait at times, staff is very accomodating and polite.

Please bear in mind that China Cottage DOES NOT serve halal meat by default. The sign outside says " We ALSO serve Halal" gives a misleading impression. You have to specifically mention that you want Halal while ordering, but there is no guarantee as you are not going to go to the kitchen and supervise the preparation of the meal. I also doubt the authenticity of their 'halal' meal as most of the utensils and stock soups etc would be common. Also, it has a fully stocked bar and the owners are not muslim. Since, my first review in May 2002, I have stopped eating over there.
Amazing food... the hot n sour soup was appettizing and the manchurian shrimp were indeed spicy. The fried rice was perfectly done and served at the right temperature. I agree with ERET that the waiters do not speak English... and thus they are shy to communicate. Otherwise things are fine. Just make sure you mention the "Halal" keyword. My friends who came from Bangalore were impressed. One of them was a vegetarian and was content and really satisfied with the choice of vegetarian dishes.
Okay - The seating arrangements are TOO crowded. Secondly they serve alcohol, thirdly NOT all food is Halal, fourthly, the wait can be sometimbes be very painstakingly long, also thw waiter could not speak english, and could not recommend anything good, the food was good, however, not that great and also it was very cold.
Best restaurant I visit recommended by my friend. This restuarant is awarded by ontario eat smart program by Ontario health food department - for healthy and excellent food. I find the best chinese halal menu served in Toronto. The seating arrangement and the atmosphere is also excellent for family.I will definitely come again on my next visit.
Very excellent service. very good food like back home. i will come more often to this restaurant. best value i recommend to all of my friends
One of the best Halal Chieneese food in Metropolitan Toronto and Mississauga. Try thier China Cottage special soup and Tripple Szcheun Rice. This is their own oringal recipe. Use of spices was perfect when I tried their Chilli and Szcheuan Fish. Mixed Hakka Noddles are also very tasty. A must visit and they have one of the best sitting arrangements. Servers are very courtoues and portion is gracious.

Excellent value for money, but a lot of people are misled by the sign outside which says "We also serve Halal meat," thinking that all the preparations are halal. You have to specifically mention that while ordering.
Went there after looking in zabihah.com. The food ordered was more than mouth watering tasty. Good portions, and excellent service. Would go again.
Serve excellent food in a neat environment and the service is also very good. Recommend others to try their Szechuan Shrimp, Chilli Chicken and the Szechuan Hakka Noodle . For others who would to try their Thai food it is once again recommeded to try their Mango Chicken and Beef in Oyster Sauce. For starters try Chicken Corn Soup with the Pepper Chicken. Genuine halal food is served but make sure to mention it when you placed the order.
Good spicy-style Chinese (Halal) food. Reasonable prices and good serving size.
