Honestly, I went into Poncho de Lango with zero expectations. Being used to the Italian scene in New York, I’ve been totally spoiled by authentic chefs and that specific sauce that makes you feel like you’re actually in Italy. I really didn't think I’d find anything close to that vibe in Birmingham. I’m so happy to say I was wrong! The food has some serious soul. It’s not that generic chain stuff; the flavors are deep and the sauce has that perfect, bright kick you usually only find in a top-tier Manhattan kitchen. The staff were also so lovely and made the night. A massive shout-out to Carlos—he was brilliant, super welcoming, and gave us the best recommendations. He really added to that authentic, friendly atmosphere. If you’re like me and have high standards for Italian food, give this place a go. It totally shattered my low expectations and I’m already planning my next trip back. Definitely a hidden gem!
