Part of the Guzman Y Gomez chain — see all 106 locationsGuzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'
Regular customer, we order the same thing every time we go, mild enchiladas. I can't handle the spicy. Tonight, after a very long ANZAC day, we were happy to grab our favourite takeaway. Get home, discover they've made the enchiladas hot. Up until now, everything is good... people make mistakes. I get it. But when I rang to let them know, the woman who answered the phone asked for photos, which we gave her. THEN she lets me know that I was wrong, the enchiladas were mild. Otherwise there would be red sauce on them. I'm in shock, because I've just told her that they were hot. She said that she doesn't know why I think they're hot, but they're not, they are mild. From a photo. My son isolated the problem to a yellow cheesey sauce which we've never seen before. Once we scraped it off, the food was tolerable. Unfortunately, being talked down to and effectively called a liar by their customer service rep has put me off coming here again. So disappointing.
