Part of the Guzman Y Gomez chain — see all 106 locationsGuzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'
Very nice to see GYG near Hornsby. Best of all its stand alone store and not Service Station connected like St Ives GYG. If you’re heading north out of Sydney and not in the tunnel this GYG is the final stop to get a meal before you hit the M1. To get to this GYG when heading back into Sydney it’s a bit tricky to loop around. I’ve been going to this GYG outside of the lunchtime rush yet it’s still pretty busy. Carpark is possibly too small for peak busy times. Sure there’s a drive thru option if you can’t get a spot. As I write this review this GYG is in its Honeymoon phase, lots of staff in the kitchen and from the meals so far it’s been ok. But I still get a feeling the GYG at Auburn or Chatswood is what I class as PEAK GYG. Anyway this GYG is much better than the St Ives GYG which has issues with being consistent.
