Part of the Guzman Y Gomez chain — see all 106 locationsGuzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'
Absolutely terrible. The first time I got a kids burrito meal with chicken. At least that’s what I thought I was getting. To my surprise I found myself eating just rice and melted cheese. I had hoped that this was a one time experience. However the next time I went I ordered the same with to find that I had only been given my burrito. Had to get back up and return to the counter to ask for the food and drink that I had payed for. Once again my burrito was purely rice. This is absolutely disgusting from one of my favourite fast food chains. They must do better!
