Masjid Al-Iman

5625 Shattuck Avenue, Oakland, CA

Sunni (Traditional)

A small but warm one-room masjid that is welcoming to all people including non-muslims who would like to learn more about Islam in a non-political environment. Imam Yassir Chadly, in addition to being the imam, is an associate professor teaching Islamic and sufi studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco. He is also a talented musician who plays Moroccan music and tells engaging Sufi parables in between songs.

Shaykh Yasser is one of the funniest and inspirational khateebs in the Bay. I've come here several times in the past decade and his khutbas never cease to amaze me. This is the place to bring nonMuslims ESP women as they can sit right behind the men and see the imam. This us THE most diverse masjid in the Bay. Definitely attend juma at least once there to hear Sh Yasser

Masjid Al-Iman DOES have public transit access - the # 12 and #15 AC Transit buses stop on the block of the masjid. The prayer area of Masjid Al-Iman IS wheelchair accessible - entrance and prayer area are level with the sidewalk outside. The bathrooms do present a barier - they are up a short step from the main floor.

A pleasant place to pray. Wish the mosque was larger to accomodate more people.
