The Hotspot Grill

This place is fine. I was excited to try it out, because they have a really expansive menu. But, the food is just okay. I wouldn\\\'t go out of my way to eat here, but if you\\\'re in the immediate area, it\\\'s worth a shot.

Tried them for the first time last night, so my review is based on a single experience. First the pros... it's halal and the portions for the sides were bigger than I anticipated based on the reviews. Actually the sides were, in terms of quantity, bigger than most fast food places. Also this place has a drive through so that is a plus for a halal place. Now the cons... The ordering process was super slow. We only ordered 3 items and two sides and it took them a good 5 minutes to enter it into their cash register. The portions are also really small for the main items. The food doesn't look very appealing as the buns are kind of flat. Patties or meat of whatever kind is small in quantity .... i.e. very thin patties if you ask me. Soda was absolutely flat. I tried 3 main items from their menu and two sides. I am listing them below in order from most liked to least liked in terms of their taste: 1. Chapli Kabob Burger -- Very authentic taste 2. Anday wala Bun Kabob -- Had the green mint Chutney that was huge plus 3. Fries -- They were unexpectedly good and plentiful 4. Zinger Burger -- Was very ordinary, again the patty was hopelessly thin 5. Deep fried mushrooms -- better stay away from this. The deep fried balls are literally filled with oil. Take a bite and your mouth will be filled with a spoonful of oil Suggestion for the management: Get better quality buns, add more meat and train your staff better. The prices being charged are not cheap so the quality and quantity should reflect the price. On a side note, I just returned from a trip to the bay area. The reason desi/halal food is much better in Northern California is that their patrons don't award mediocrity just because the establishment is halal. Restaurants over there compete for your business by providing excellent taste and quality. I would gladly pay a dollar or two more for better food but one can't win over customers by making ordinary food.
