Dishoom draws heavily from the heritage and tradition of the old Bombay Cafs. Welcoming people from morning until night, serving tasty breakfasts, quick lunches, early evening drinks and snacks, or a sociable dinner with friends. Adding their signature London twist, dishes include grilled salads, feisty lamb chops and their renowned ruby murray of the day. Dishoom takes reservations for group bookings.
A halal certificate is clearly visible on the premises. Per March 4, 2011 response from restaurant: All lamb and chicken at Dishoom is Halal and is sourced from Halal certified suppliers. We do have alcohol, sausages and bacon on our menu, but all non-Halal items are cooked on a separate griddle or in a specific pan. All utensils are washed thoroughly after being used these products. These items are also stored in a separate part of the refrigeration area. The head chef (Naved) strictly eats only Halal, so he's very conscientious in making sure all of this is observed.
Score reflects a halal certificate on file, with an active issue report under review.
I had the fried calamari, delicious twist on the classic dish. Also had the keema frankie which was nice. Mango lassi was good too. Decor is good. But you will leave smelling like food!
I work in London regularly and have been to Dishoom on a number of occasions. Both with work colleagues and friends. They bill themselves as a "bombay cafe" and the restaurant is very stylish inside. A mixture of tables and cushioned coves. It's always packed (sign of a good restaurant) and has a really buzzing feel to it. The great thing that I have found of this place is that the menu is small, but everything they do, they do well. I am HUGE fan of the Keema Pau, you need to try it, it's fab. The chicken tikka and seekh kebab's are also great. Try the skate cheeks (little fish bits battered and fried). As it's always busy there might be a wait if you turn up (i think you can book for larger parties), but they have a bar area downstairs where you can get a diet coke while you wait. Service is really good and some of the items come very quickly. It is a bit more on the pricey side, but thats understandable given location.
Ok the important things , you can book after 6 pm provided the group is 6 people or more. Around 7 to 8 pm on a Friday night at least , the wait for the restaurant is 25-30 minutes. Free tea is served at random for the queueing customers. The restaurant is on 2 floors , each floor is huge . The lower floor seems the more quiet part. The whole place is very busy but buzzing with good vibes and atmosphere. An army of well organized servers are constantly around cleaning serving and taking orders. Indeed our server was a well spoken knowledgeable gentleman. The menu is a moderate size , a good selection of everything. The food itself was one of the best experiences of Indian food I've ever had , and I've been to a lot of places in the UK and india . The spice levels are fortunately catered for the Indian palate . So westerners beware lol Toilets were very nicely decorated and very clean , a bit oldly worldy in design You must at least try this restaurant once in your life! I'll definitely come back here.
