The staff of this restaurant has verbally confirmed halal status. All Popeyes restaurants in Ontario, Canada serve Halal products, though as of 2011, the chain has shifted from a certified hand-slaughtered supplier to a certified machine-slaughtered one, as confirmed by Popeye's corporate headquarters. Restaurants confirm that everything is halal and that all ingredients are different to their US stores (i.e., all gravy and sauces are halal).
Founded in 1972, Popeyes has more than 40 years of history and culinary tradition. Popeyes culinary heritage is built upon the rich Cajun and creole flavor profiles that are unmistakably Louisiana. We continuously draw upon and celebrate this heritage to inspire new, authentic menu creations the world craves. Popeyes distinguishes itself with a unique New Orleans style menu featuring spicy chicken, chicken tenders, fried shrimp and other regional items. This unique and flavorful food has allowed Popeyes to become one of the world's largest chicken quick service restaurants, with more than 2,700 restaurants in North America and around the world.

I've had food here before, but that is prior to the whole Popeyes industry in Canada changing chicken suppliers - who they say is still halal-certified. Yes, machines now offer halal certification. Anyway, as of May 2012, I have confirmed (by asking the manager and store employees) that this store in particular does not serve any of the standalone chicken as halal. They have changed their supplier and apparently the only thing that they say is halal (due to a second supplier) is the meat in the chicken burgers - don't forget that this is fried in the same oil as the non-halal chicken. I would advise to avoid this store altogether as the chicken burger is doubtful and because they don't serve halal chicken any more. I have personally not eaten any Popeyes since the announcement of the supplier change by the Popeyes franchise in Canada. Furthermore, I have also emailed Popeyes and spoken with a representative about this issue. The person in question has insisted that the chicken is still halal-certified, which I have verified above as false, and is just trying to exploit the community and the word use. I do not know what other Popeyes chain follow the same pattern, but since the supplier change applies to the whole of Ontario or is it the GTA?, you should first ask the store employees and/or manager (get them to speak the truth as some may lie just to avoid "scaring customers away").
