About Ephesus

At Ephesus, the emphasis is on authentic Turkish food. Forget ambience. The front room feels like a takeout shop; the more restaurant-like rear dining space falls somewhat short of swanky. Yet, when it comes to good eating, Ephesus often skewers the competition.

My meals have always been excellent, and I am almost amused at rubyali1's notes. 1) I have little doubt that they got there right before closing--that's the only time I've seen them run out. 2) gyro meat us in about 10% or fewer dishes, not 75. 3) sandwiches/wraps are on the takeout menu, not the dining menu. 4) overpriced? From what I recall, only one dish is over $20; most are mid-low teens, others <$10 Now, back to the good. I just had the okra for the first time and it was very enjoyable and complexly flavored. Doesn't beat the kabobs, but that's because the latter are just so good. Personal favorites: That lovely bread put down soon after you sit. The creamy goodness if the hunker begendi. The stuffed eggplant is fantastic. Oh, and those takeout sandwiches: sublime. Perfect takeout food. I give them the edge over the great pide because I have a weakness for big hunks of hot, crusty bread.

I went there tonight with my family for the first time. First of all, they did not have any gyro meat available. For a saturday night, I thought that was odd...especially since 75% of their dishes have gyro in it. Second, the waitress said they do not make any kind of sandwiches/wraps when their website states they do. Third, the food was overpriced. The only thing nice about the place was that the waitress wrapped the leftovers for us. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
