About Hala Café & Bakery

Headquartered on University Boulevard and with other Jacksonville-area locations, unassuming Hala Café & Bakery has long set the local standard for top-notch Middle Eastern fare. House-baked pita bread establishes the foundation for an array of favorites such as kabobs, stuffed grape leaves, falafel and hummus, as well as tabouli that garnered mention as part of Jacksonville magazine's 75 Best Things to Eat list. The daily lunch buffet draws a crowd, with dinnertime a more laid-back affair. Hala's was voted Best Middle Eastern Cuisine in 2007 in Folio Weekly reader's poll. Serving lunch and dinner Mon - Sat. Closed Sun.

Go to their website (halafoods.com), and look at their menu. You will find this statement, "beer and wine also available." Please update this record to reflect that this establishment is NOT alcohol free. Given the fact that they serve alcohol, nor make any clear statements that the food that they serve/sell is halal, this place is highly questionable as a "halal establishment.

I ahve been here before when i opened the cooler i smelled and saw flats of beer! the meat they carry is questionable, theyget their lamb from sources that have been known to cheat on their sourceing such as mechanical seperation and slaughtering! i ahve also seen expired groceries on the shelves and the service is very very slow in the store! they also carry canned meat that is not certified halal! the hala resteraunt has also gotten several health violations which can be looked up from any news station that carries the reports fo rpeople to read!
