About Himali Cha Cha

This restaurant is the final work of Cha Cha, who spent over 40 years cooking about the world before establishing Himali Cha Cha in 1980. One of his first jobs on the staff of Lord Mountbatten of India in the 1940s-set the high note his career was to follow; cooking for the rich, powerful and famous. They expected and got, the very best-Cha Cha's special cooking. After Indian independence he spent a career as a cook to Indian Ambassadors abroad. His last diplomatic posting was in Laos, where he married, then set up a small restaurant by the morning market. His name spread among the Indian food lovers, though his old friends, Ambassadors and diplomats remained prominent among diners there. In 1977 Cha Cha and his Thai family fled communism in Laos. In Bangkok, Himali Cha Cha grew from demand for Cha Cha's cooking, his rare skill with spices and flavors. Now in the capable hands of his son Kovit.

If I could give this place a warm hug, I would! And that's exactly how it felt to be there, like a warm hug. It's not just another Indian restaurant in Bangkok, it's place with rich history and a story of a well respected and well known cook who served who's who across various countries. The interiors are classy, the dim lit warm lights add to the ambience. Menu is rich with different options and food tastes good. Tandoori roti could be slightly better instead of being overcooked but I can live with that when pricing is value for money. When away from home, and looking for home food, why wouldn't you visit this place! I wish them loads of luck!
