Choopan is a little more polished than your average kebab joint, but it's the Afghani dishes that draw local families here. Thick, dill-seasoned yogurt is featured prominently: in the creamy dressing over an iceberg-lettuce salad; in a cool, salty drink laced with cucumber; in a drizzle over a plate of sauted eggplant. A squirt of the topping definitely adds tremendous flavour to the kebabs. The dish of ashak"”delicate, almost translucent dumplings stuffed with minced leeks in a rich meat-and-lentil sauce"”is a unique treat, as is the refreshing firnee, a milk pudding dessert with cardomom and chopped pistachios.

Came here with a bunch of school friends (about 20 people). Food was served quickly and accurately and was delicious. Staff was extremely nice and restaurant itself was clean and decorated nicely.
Excellent food! Do your taste buds a favor and try their aoush soup!
excellent Afgahan food, great place to go if you are in the mood for chicken tikka with brown rice. I love the white sauce. Nice place to sit and eat.
Best Afghani food on Long Island. Great service, in my opinion the food is better local places. I've been to a ton of Afghani places all over the area but, Choopan is the best!
Still one of my favorite Afghan places on the planet. Have had some of the best times here with friends. Food is plentiful and it has great flavor. The Choopan Grill out in Selden is also very good which made me really happy! Overall, highly recommended.
Love this place! everything on the menu is great. I really like the pasta, I know most people don't order that, but it's very good. But so are the lamb chops, the lamb boti, the chicken, everything really. The one thing I have a problem with is their service. IT's really deteriorated.
The food is good but very over priced and the portions have shrunk significantly since people started flocking here. You cant really go wrong with anything on the menu. Again very pricey esp for the portions.
Good food and service. The portions were a decent size, and this place is sooo much better than the one in Flushing!
I think this is the best afghani place in long island.. my fav is the lamb tikka kebob...i love the sauces.. delish..worth going to...
Pretty clean place, I am a big fan of kebabs and afghani food and have been to many places. I loved the food here, it was so flavor-ful, yummy. The quantity was fair and so were the prices. I had some left over, so bought it home and my brother loved it and had asked were I had gotten it from. I plan on returning again and again
Terrible. NO MEAT! Cold food. No flavor. The restaurant operator has no clue of real Afghani food. Afghans are very generous and big-hearted people. This restaurant is a shame to all Afghanis. These guys are stingiest and miserly when it comes to meat. The kababs were skinniest I have ever seen. I very politely told the waitress that the "kababs appeared to be on a diet". She just chuckled and did not even bother to respond. I told her again and she just ignored. Then at the time of check, I told her if they had anything on the menu that offers a generous of meat? She looked at me like the deer in a headlight. If the owner really cares about customer feedback then talk to me. I will tell you my candid & honest opinion.
Good food, great price, clean and pleasant setting. Definately recommend it...
I have to say that I am now a fan of Choopan. I like the Chicken Kofte Kabab and the Burani Badunjan is excellent. I like how they give you a naan with that as well. This place due to viral marketing is now pretty packed and they have a party room which is ehh but hey they have one. Good food and the prices are excellent.
It is excellent!
They have great food with great service and wonderful prices. They are 100% halal
I personally think this place is not ALL THAT but its good anyways. WHat some people might not know is that this restaurant has a small place in the back for private parties, which can fit up to 120 people. Also this secret place is usually used often for people who decide to pray in the back since it is a more private location.
The restaurant is nicely decorated, with dim lights and nice oriental music. It's alwyas clean and the service is excellent. The cheff is polite and nice and so are the waitresses. The food is beyond excellence when it comes to real afghani food and if I havd to compare them to any other afghani restaurant this would definately be number 1. I love this restaurant and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to have fun with the family eating halal food and just enjoy everything. This place is number 1.
Masha'Allah, great food! I had a shindig at my house catered by them - and everything turned out superb, Alhamdulillah.
I ate on 2 different occasions from here and food was excellent both times. I think it's better than the original Choopan on Main St. Parking is also easier :) Make sure to order the extra naan bread, it's $1 more for one piece but very much worth it.
They catered a dinner at Stony Brook. Food was really good.
Store recently opened (April 2005). Same owners as the famous Choopan Kebab located in Flushing. Food is not too expensive and tastes realllly good. They've catered a bunch of family events and will cater an MSA event, food is top quality. Definetely recommend
What an amazing dinner ! This is my second time at this restaurant and it’s definitely one of my favorites. My afghani friend recommended it and has even said it’s her favorite restaurant, so that’s when you know it’s legit. Rarely do I leave 5 stars, but this experience warranted it. We ordered the dinner for two special, and it was well worth the price! The salad is so simple but with their special white sauce (I’ve never tasted another white sauce like this one, it has like a special tang to it), it tastes amazing. A fresh way to open your palette. The bolani (stuffed flat bread) and the badinjan (eggplant) was very tasty! Badinjan is my favorite, whenever it’s on the menu im ordering it. The naan was yummy too, tasted very fresh. The presentation of the qabuli palow (rice dish) and the combo #2 (lamb tikka, chicken breast, and kofta) was so beautiful. I love the rice, the raisins and other flavors were perfect. The combo was delicious as well, and perfect for me bc it allowed me to taste the different protein options instead of choosing just one. I loved our drinks as well. The black tea soothed my soul, you could taste the quality and it was served in a beautiful glass. And the pomango bliss (pomegranate mango juice) was also very tasty. The firnee (pudding) was good too, the flavors were very light and airy (kind of reminded me a little bit of rice pudding, the undertones of rice and the kind of gentle spices/sweetness typically paired with it). Staff were very kind and attentive. I also noticed that they updated/decorated the interior (sorry I didn’t take much photos of that) but it looks very beautiful inside. The rugs, the upholstered chairs, artwork on the wall, and other decor really enhanced the experience. I love when people decorate a space with an intention. Please do yourself a favor and try it out, you won’t be disappointed🤎
