We went there with the recommendation of Zabiha and a few friends who said that the restaurant is halal. How could you expect halal if there is no restrictions to cross contamination due to PORK. Even the entrance of the restaurant has statues of pigs. Would any Halal establishment have such a welcoming sign. We ignored it and went inside and the waitress did not know what was halal, she went in and called someone out and he said that everything except chicken legs was halal. I thought it was weird and sat down to order, but when I saw Pork on the menu we walked out. Cant imagine that there will be no cross contamination with the various utensils, vessels, kitchen tools all in a small area. I wish you well brothers and sisters if you want to go there. I have cited a hadith by the prophet (SAWS) "Verily, the lawful (Halal) is clear and the unlawful (Haram) is clear, and between the two of them are doubtful matters about which many people do not know. Thus, he who avoids doubtful matters clears himself in regard to his religion and his honor, and he who falls into doubtful matters will fall into the unlawful as the shepherd who pastures near a sanctuary, all but grazing therein. Verily, every king has a sanctum and the sanctum of Allah is his prohibitions. Verily, in the body is a piece of flesh which, if sound, the entire body is sound, and if corrupt, the entire body is corrupt. Truly, it is the heart." (Sahih Bukhari)

Cafe Med Resturant is not HALAAL! I was helping a friend of mine who had gone to Salt Lake City for a convention to locate a Halaal resturant. When he reached Cafe Med and approached the Cashier to confirm if the food was Halaal, The cashier asked my friend What is Halaal?

I use to live in SLC and this was my favorite restauraunt. This place has the best food in SLC! I thought Mike was a Muslim though I may be mistaken. He is certainly very conscience and respectful to his Muslim customers (90% of his guest). The food is a mixture of mediteranean and mid-eastern. In view of the previous reviews I would recommend you simply ask for Halal as he is a very upright person and will provide you nothing but.

The food is excellent and they do provide halal chicken per request; the lamb is always halal. Not all of the chicken dishes can be made halal, however, because some need a long time to marinate. Best is to ask and they'll let you know.

Cafe Med is not a muslim owned restaurant and currently only has halal lamb available on the menu (confirmed by a Bosnian muslim employee and the owner). The food, ambience and service is quite good for both dine-in and take-out. I was given the impression if more and more people ask for other halal options they will provide an expanded menu.
