Our cuisine is inspired by the opulent flavors and meticulous cooking processes of Eastern cultures found along the ancient Silk Route - which includes the flavours in India, Afghanistan and Persia.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. Halal lamb only. Chicken and beef are not Halal, according to staff
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
We search for halal food wherever we travel. I asked the staff for verification and got conflicting answers. One lady told us that the meat was not halal. I asked to cancel the order and immediately another lady stopped by and said that the meat is halal, usually chicken isn\'t but today it is. First and foremost, this place is listed as fully halal- which it is NOT. Secondly, I heard the second lady scolding the first one who told us that it isn\'t halal- which is NOT nice for potentially telling the truth. Thirdly, meat doesn\'t chose to be halal on specific days. Fourthly, the food is fusion at best and does not cater to the authentic Pakistani or Indian food and should be rated as such. I would highly recommend changing the halal rating of this place.
This restaurant is fantastic. They are halal. I have been multiple times and asked multiple people. Every single person knows it is halal. Yes, they do not cater to a Muslim demographic, no they do not serve alcohol. The food is great, they have live music, and their smoothies are incredible. It is a very different take on foods which you may be familiar with. It is not expensive. It is only expensive relative to fast food, which it is not. Expect to spend $20 - $25 a person.
I have just visited the restaurant. It was an excellent experience. I love their feast meal which includes unlimited refills. When asked about the meat, I was assured by the server that all meats were halal after consulting the kitchen. This place is one of my best now.
I had meals in both branches of this restaurant (on West Broadway and on Main St). While I am not 100% sure about Halal authenticity (nothing in the place suggests that apart from the Afghan connotations and the nice muhajjaba lady working in the kitchen), but the place doesn't seem to serve alcohol which is always a good sign. the food is absolutely amazing! and so is the atmosphere and the service. Don't miss the Silk Road Feast with refillable Kababs and all dishes, like an open buffet on your table.
called the place and they said it was halal...i went inside and there did not appear to be any muslim staff...the menu was quite pricey and appears they specialize in healthy, organic foods? Anyways, i bolted since the menu had nothing that peaked my interest...the place inside is qutie nice and the setup is cool but the halal authenticity is a bit sketchy and the menu is a) pricey and b) organic
I'm not sure if we can take Aftaab's word because he admitted here that he didn't even bother to try the food. Ever heard of reverse-snobbery? He seems quite racist, too. ANYWAYZ, this establishment has opened another restaurant right above it called CHAI. It's been there for a while and the best deals are when you go on the events night. They seem to have new events there all the time. www.chaiateastiseast.com I was assured that the food is halaal/zabiahah, prepped by Muslim kitchen staff. The drinks are another story and it's kinda off the menu. Chai takes CASH ONLY and it's open in the evenings of Thurs - Sunday, except Wed is their chrity night ($25 per person)
When this restaurant first opened in 2001, the meat was zabihah, as I've confirmed with its halal supplier. Today, I called its supplier again; they no longer supply to this restaurant. I don't know for sure if that means that the meat is or is not zabihah at this eatery anymore, but I'll be ordering vegetarian until I find out for sure.
A wonderful reasonably establishment for the ethically minded. Great range of menu, has both cheaper options (ie double roti to share) to more expensive options (ie the tahli plate). The smoothies, while expensive, are amazing.
Well, a utopia is no longer what it is. Still great food w/ organic/halal ingredients and pleasant atmosphere... but now serving alcoholic wine...
Cool place. Meat wasn't halal when I spoke to owner. Real slick place. Organic. Good Smoothies. Good atmosphere.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Excellent food. Very interesting drinks (yummy). All organic. Beautiful food brings beautiful people. Everyone who goes there seems very nice & open. Cash only...
A truly memorable experience! I had walked in a couple weeks ago - didn’t dine in then but loved how warm the hosts were and returned back for dinner tonight. The ambiance is lovely. The hosts and my server, Cora, were a treat. They served complimentary tea as I waited for my table to get ready — it was so unique with hints of ginger & cardamom. I was looking to taste/try the best food they have to offer and was blown away by their sampling platter. Unlimited samples of curries with bottomless rice & flatbread! The peas & paneer, wild salmon curry, chicken masala, eggplant curry, and vegan butter chicken (sweeter) were my fav from the night. All curries were packed with authentic flavor, fresh ingredients, rich, and so aromatic. All curries are served with Afghani rice (highly recommend!) and flatbread (with tender filling). Genuinely recommend this place for a good bang for your buck. Ended the meal with gulab jaman for dessert and was given a complimentary biscotti upon leaving. This place really hit the nail on the head in terms of hospitality, service, atmosphere, and definitely the food! Will be frequenting this gem in Kits often. +20 for great live music :)
