Reasoning for my score: Their halwa puri nashta gets a 5/5, but their biryani (both chicken and mutton) gets a 2/5, so i took the average. The halwa puri was flavourful, delicious, filling as it was a huge portion, and tastes very authentic. They give enough puri and even include potato which is not always included. I wish their chai was better because a good cuppa would make the experience so much better. Their biryani was nothing special and was quite frankly underwhelming. It\'s also not very filling. The place itself is in a strip mall and seating can be a struggle. And the wait can be really long so bring your patience.
Funny how some places fall off the map over time. Tabaq is one of those stories. Used to have the best halwa puri, kabob rolls and nihari and so-so service. But now and sadly horrendous service to the point you're scared to ask the auntie for anything. Food- rubber puri's, bland cholay and aloos. Please Tabaq come back and improve on food quality\service.
We were a group of approx. 15 people who went to this place for breakfast on Jul 1, 2012 This place gets extremely busy on weekends because they offer breakfast specials The breakfast itself is pretty good and very cheap. We ordered halwa poori for $2.99. It was pretty good. Although the serving size was small. So order one halwa poori per person and perhaps order some extra pooris, kababs etc. Also tried nihari. It was good as well. Not the best I have eaten but certainly above average. Naans were very delicious We also ordered chicken kababs and they were excellent kababs "“ with a taste of black pepper We also ordered sweet lassi. The taste was good. But it was not cold enough. In fact it was warm and that ruined its taste for me. There are other restaurants (in shops) in the same area as well. But only this place gets busy. We found that others were just sitting idle. The seating area is common and shared by all restaurants. The place gets very busy on weekends and it was very difficult for us to find a place for 15 people. Again, don't expect them to give a place to you. Keep an eye on people who are about to finish their food and as soon as they leave the table, jump on it"¦ Service was not great. Long lines "“ you have to struggle to place your order. Use the Desi system. Don't stand in the back of the line and expect them to call you. Fight to place your order ïŠ Also, once you have placed the order, don't expect them to bring it to you. They just call order number and you have to keep your ears open. Otherwise, when its busy, it is easy to miss their call and then you are screwed. Overall we were happy with the food. The service could have been a lot better. Would definitely go back for more..
kebabs are ok halwa puri i sawesome
Their food is AWESOME! The women who run the place are really nice people. Their tandoori chicken is good, but try their butter chicken for sure! It is the best I have ever had. Their haleem was also very tasty. Their food is also very well priced. My family of four had a full-blown dinner, but spent barely 19 dollars.
The worst service you can get, This is the second time i have been to Tabaq. They only have one employee who is the server, order taker, cashier. Ordered Nihari and puri the food came cold, no water was served, nihari came after 15 minutes the nans were served first and were cold. Ordered extra nan came after half hour. I would not recommend anyone to go and waste their money. the staff is not friendly and a very poor service. Yousaf.
Have had their biryani. Really good. Their 2.99 lunch special is good too... Good food. Value for money
Somewhat atypical atmosphere....with many other take-outs located in this food court setting......tried their Halwa poori which was excellent.....Got seekh kababs & naans to go that were also very good. Staff was okay.....very busy place though.....you'll have to wait in line for your turn.
Poor service and the food is definitely not worth the hassle.
Food portions extremely small and worse than that, very very rude staff. They called our number which we couldn't hear because of all the noise in the food court. They then called again in 20 minutes after the food was completely cold. When we asked why they hadn't bothered to make sure we got our food the staff became extremely rude. I asked for the manager who turned out to be ruder to the point of abusive. And we hadn't even asked for refund or any action, just why didn't they make sure we got our food when we couldn't hear their calling above the noise. NEVER AGAIN....
I went their new location in the scarborough, they have spacous banquat hall but regular resturaunt space is very limited I felt like I am sitting curb of the street, any way Halwa Puri combo very good with reasonable price
feels like your good ol fashioned momma's cooking, (sauga location)
For a quick and still filling meal their channay ka salan is excellent. Best of all you get fresh tandoori naan cooked on the spot before your eyes. $6 for a huge plate of channa and 2 naans.. you can't go wrong with that.
Excellent HALWA-PORI on weekends Price is below average but quality is above average and very friendly staff Try there CHAKAR CHANNA- this is their specialty.
For a food court, the food was surprisingly very good. I usually buy food next door at Dosa Corner (which is 100% veggie) but I thought i might go and try their seekh kabobs out...They were EXCELLENT, and the price was EXCELLENT. There is a sign that indicates that they are halal, and the people that work there are muslims. Go check it out, it is worth it.
The crew at this place looks like insomniacs. Halwa puri is good.
but recently they shifted to mississagua.......somewhere around highway 10 and dundas.....never been there..........but i think its one of the best tandoori i've eaten all my life and the fact that i've just arrived from pakistan.
"Wow, what can I say? Tabaq is a dream come true! Their tandoori chicken was the best I have ever had in my entire 19 year life. It is definately their specialty. Everyone must try it. You won't be dissapointed. It just recently re-located to another place which I am not aware of at the moment. Overall, it is the best South Asian restaurant I have ate at. A must try! Highly recommended!"
Tabaq has two branches to serve muslims.
"Great food, best south asian restaurant in toronto, its tandoori chicken is the best i've ever had."
Good food. The tandoori chicken was really good. I guess you would have to be if your name is Tandoori BBQ chicken. Another good thing is that they are open late. i think till 3am.
Friendly people and excellent food especially the Chicken Tikka. This place is open late so is an excellent choice for the ones who want to have delicious desi food at any time.
The food is amazing! They prepare the tandoori chicken while you wait and their fresh naan is unbelievable! Service is a tad bit slow, but well worth the wait! A must try!
