Zankou Chicken was a pretty mixed experience for me. First of all, I’m not really sure how this place qualifies as “fast food” or “affordable” when a simple chicken and rice plate ended up costing over $20. Some parts of the meal were genuinely good though — the hummus was excellent, and the pita bread tasted fresh and flavorful, grilled meat was tasty. Unfortunately, the rest was underwhelming. The salad was bland, the rice itself wasn’t great, and the biggest issue was the sauce. It was incredibly thick, heavy, and honestly just weird with the rice and meat. A sauce like that should help tie all the ingredients together, not make everything feel separated and overly coated. Overall, not terrible, but definitely not something I’d personally hype up.
