Part of the Guzman Y Gomez chain — see all 107 locationsGuzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats.'
Score reflects admin-confirmed halal status; no additional evidence on file yet.
The burrito was a bit dry but the meat was tender and the tortilla was cooked alright. The nachos lack flavor, the guacamole needs something to brighten the sauce. This is not a genuine Mexican to go to when you are craving Mexican food unless you are desperate. Food went out quick though and staff are happy, friendly and nice. They have segregated their own dining space considering they are in a food court so this helps their customers a lot too.
