Part of the Guzman Y Gomez chain — see all 106 locationsGuzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'
I am extremely disappointed and disgusted with my experience at GYG Hoxton Park. This is now the second time within a month that I have found a hair in my food. Most recently, it was in the nacho fries I purchased. Finding a hair in your meal once is unacceptable, but experiencing the same issue again raises serious concerns about hygiene and food handling standards at this restaurant. It has completely destroyed my trust and made me feel sick and uncomfortable. While staff may offer a replacement meal or free food, that does not change how unpleasant and upsetting this experience has been. I no longer feel comfortable eating here and will not be returning. Management needs to take food safety and cleanliness far more seriously to prevent this from happening to other customers.
