Masjid Toronto

This wonderful masjid is an oasis of peace in the middle of downtown Toronto. In the midst of the financial centre, world reknown hospitals and the biggest shopping areas in Canada, is a place of peace. I found the people here to be very welcoming, and it seems that all are welcome regardless of their race or age. This is evident by the large array of many races, ages and multiculturalism. It was once a large two story bank, but now it gives out true riches with lush carpeting and a large area capable of handling the thousands of visitors each day. One problem is the three Jummah/Khutbah and the exchange between people trying to leave and people trying to attend. This is beyond belief in how busy it is, but it is worth it as I enjoy listening to what is said. Since I moved I am unable to attend here often, but I always enjoy coming here when I can.

Clean, beautiful masjid. I've only been there a couple of times so do not know much about the masjid's administration. Conveniently located and aesthetically pleasing. Fits right into the part of downtown Toronto it sits in.

The main floor (mens area) is quite beautiful, but the women's area is not quite up to the same level (so say my female friends).

Masjid Toronto is a blessing from Allah. Located dead in the middle of downtown it is a pofessional two-story bank building that now serves as a masjid. It is very clean and elegant inside, decor is actually VERY nice. Thick plush rug carpet, newly made restrooms, and a VAST collection of classical Arabic books make up the central floor. Staff are a bit condescending and unhelpful, unless you are suited booted and look like someone with donation potential. But that is forgiveable given the amount of money needed to pay off this super-nice facility in a prominent location, right behind the Greyhound Station and the Hospital complex. It offers two-Friday prayers which is a God sent, although I find the khutbahs utterly boring and dry everytime I go there.

Nothing super special about the decor of the masjid. Since it is centrally located it gets a lot of use and it does show. Khutbas are in English which is great. Main prayer space (men's area) is large and airy. The women's prayer space is large enough for the need but is rather dingy. Women cannot see or hear the imam unless the speakers/TV are working. Alhamdullilah, speaking for the women's area there is always a warm, welcoming feeling from the sisters who are regulars. Because of the location, the egalitarian feel of the masjid (the khateebs are rotated) and the fact that the khutba is in English this is my husband's favorite masjid. I rate it okay - I don't feel uncomfortable there and sisters are welcoming but women's space could be better (less grubby and dingy) and I prefer to be able to see and hear the imam/khateeb.
