Part of the Guzman Y Gomez chain — see all 37 locationsGuzman y Gomez was founded in Sydney in 2006 by New Yorkers and childhood best friends Steven Marks and Robert Hazan. Steven, a former hedge fund manager, and Robert, who had a background in fashion wholesale and retail, both missed the authentic fresh flavours of Mexican cuisine that they had grown up with in America.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From corporate headquarters: 'The chicken at all GYG restaurants is Halal certified - a copy of the certificate can be emailed upon request. We do have Halal certified chicken across all our locations. We do however work with other non-Halal meats and we do not follow halal processes in the kitchen.'
Score reflects admin-confirmed halal status; no additional evidence on file yet.
The burrito - a little word that represents whichever staff member made ours. I'm not sure what happened today but on opening this mornings burrito I wasnt expecting it to be leaking and didn't realised it and dripped onto my shirt. Feedback has been sent to the franchise. Among my almost weekly visits to GyG, this is only the second store that has been sub par for consistency. I'm not sure if it was the liquid from the beans or something else but there was an overpowering flavour that seems to take away the essence - when it wasn't on my shirt.
