My boys and I have a monthly father and son tradition where we travel to a new barbecue destination. This week took us to North Carolina on a three day barbecue adventure. Stop number two was a place that I’m very familiar with because of YouTube but finally got a chance today to step foot inside and try the food. Did it live up to what I expected? I would actually say it exceeded what I expected. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the owner Chris greets you personally at the door upon arrival. All of the staff were very attentive and checked on us constantly throughout our meal. Now to the food… There was nothing that we sampled that wasn’t absolutely amazing. Beautiful smoke flavor, well seasoned, and every bite you can taste the purpose of how they prepared the meat. The fatty brisket melted in your mouth. The beef cheeks were so rich and flavorful. The pulled pork was the favorite of my son. The ribs were some of the best ribs I’ve ever eaten. An underrated piece of meat, the smoked turkey was juicy and packed full of flavor. I’ll never complain about a delicious burnt end. The jalapeño cheddar sausage was perfect. All the sides were just as good. The boys obviously loved the mac & cheese the most, While the baked beans and barbecue rice stole the show for me. Honorable mention goes to the creamed corn. The dessert, more of the same, amazing. Hard to choose a favorite because they were all so good but if I had to rank them, Texas cobbler, bread pudding and then banana pudding. The perfect ending to the experience though was meeting the owner, Chris. He stopped by and talked to many people throughout our time there but spent a good 15 minutes with us talking about barbecue and life. Great human being! GET THERE EARLY if you can, be patient and you will be rewarded with great barbecue. We got there at 10 am and we were third in line but once the doors opened, it filled up quick. Thanks for the memories and being #27 on The Kirkman Boys BBQ Road Trip ❤️ EDIT you are officially etched into the Kirkman boys barbecue road trip family heirloom poster.
