The Oriental Restaurant, Cowey Park, Essenwood. Mr D, for takeaway. Ordered all meals HOT🔥 since we’re allowed to select. Mini Mutton 8.3/10 🏆 Kebab Chutney Roti 7.7/10 Chicken Curry Roti 6.8/10😪 Chicken/mince samoosas. Soji and kheer, because why not. Ratings are for taste only. Excuse the pics, as we were outdoors. Meals were well packed, with cutlery included, and the roti rolls arrived deconstructed🙏🏼 The mini mutton did indicate a R20 charge for decon, but there was no option on Mr D to select and add the charge. So we got it constructed, neatly wrapped in foil and labeled, but the delivery slip indicated 1/4 mutton buny🤷🏼‍♂️ The mutton had one small and four bigger pieces of meat, including two big meat-on-bone pieces. Potato was well cooked and soft. The gravy was flavourful, medium heat and spice. The bread was fresh, but the salad had a vinegar chilli taste, which is not for me. The sambal lacked salt and did not complement the dish. To top it off, there was a hidden elachi 💣. The kebab chutney was hot✅️ and spicy🔥 with a whole slit green chilli and a little extra oil. It did have an aftertaste which lingered from the three small kebabs with very tight/fine mince in texture, a bit like lollies from Jolly but not the same flavour, and this was the Achilles heel. The chicken portion is good, with medium heat and lightly oily gravy. Potato was MIA, which may explain the slight saltiness of the gravy, and it did stain a bit 😅. The roti used for the rolls were tasty, fresh and large in size. The soji was also on point, a grainy consistency with some raisins for those who prefer. Kheer was rich, creamy, slightly undersweet. The rice was well cooked and almonds were included. Samoosas were crisp, filling was excellent in taste and quantity, and the sauce elevated the already great flavours. Notably, the chicken was diced fillet and not mince. Strong showing overall (especially if the potato was included). With a little tweaks on the mutton bunny, meat cuts and consideration for the elachi bomb, salad&sambal flavours on the day, it would move towards a winner 🎯, the mini is a bit steep at R95 in-store or R102 on MrD, unless the mini was actually a quarter.
