As a young bright chef and business man, Sam Osmow took over Polar Submarine as his own business. Sam experimented with his own recipes and came up with truly delicious meals. He soon felt the need to work on changing the whole concept of the restaurant - making it a business he can easily relate to. He reopened up as Osmow's, a truly Mediterranean restaurant at 251 Queen Street South, Unit 1, Mississauga, thereby presenting his new healthy and mouth watering meal selections.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. Osmow's states that their meats are sourced from central halal-certified suppliers and that all of its meat is hand-slaughtered.
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
Their Shawarma wrap is great. Also worth trying their chicken on stix (french fries)
I have been a big fan of Osmow's since it came to Brockville, however my experiences over the last few months have been disappointing. I was in earlier this year, about an hour before close and ordered a shawarma poutine. After I ordered, the employee dumped pre-fried fries from a stainless steel bowl that had been sitting behind the prep counter (not in a warming spot). I thought perhaps the fries were placed there just before I came inside the store, and perhaps were fresher than I had hoped. When I got to my car, it was evident the fries were not fresh and had been sitting for some time prior to my order. I decided that I would not go back given it was an hour before closing and I thought perhaps they needed to shut their fryers off early that night. 10 days ago I was back in store, this time at dinner hour (6:30 pm) and ordered another poutine, but regular this time, not shawarma. I was the only one in store. After I ordered, the employee put down fresh fries. However, to my disappointment, again used fries that had been sitting in a bowl behind the prep counter as well as fries that were pre-fried and sitting above the fryer in a basket. The poutine came swamped with gravy (never used to be like this), which made it absolute soup by the time I went to eat it withing 5 minutes. I will say the gravy was piping hot, but the fries were soggy and not fresh. Ended up throwing it out instead of driving back. I've had several delivery orders that have been subpar, but I attributed it to the delivery process (delivery always less than 5 mins away). But I'm not sure now that I've had these back to back experiences in store. I'm not sure I'll be back. I loved when you could count on your food being fresh! It was always delicious then. But freshness doesn't seem to be a priority lately. Disappointing.
