We were born in South Africa, with a blend of Portuguese and British culture along the way. It all started in Mozambique, home of the hot sun, rich soil... and African Bird’s Eye Chillies. Also known as PERi-PERi. Small but mighty, these chillies have been used for centuries in local Mozambiquan cooking. The Portuguese then added a squeeze of lemon and kick of garlic to make the first PERi-PERi sauce. Used on just about anything, they found it was the ultimate baste for flame-grilling spatchcocked chicken. And it wasn’t long before two friends in Johannesburg came to experience the taste of PERi-PERi chicken and Nando’s was born. Fast forward a few years, restaurants and Fino Pittas and today, the Nando’s PERi-PERi you know and love still pays homage to those roots.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From the management: 'Our halal chicken is authorised by leading Halal Food Authorities. The quality, welfare and health of our chicken is a priority and our UK suppliers follow the strict Red Tractor Farm Assurance Standards. Our halal chickens are pre-stunned to minimise suffering and fear before they're hand-slaughtered. All our halal products are kept separate at our suppliers and in our distribution centres. And our restaurants with halal-friendly options are only allowed to receive chicken from our approved distribution centre. In these restaurants, we only serve chicken that's certified halal. And as we don’t handle any pork ingredients, there’s no chance of cross-contamination'
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
Genuinely one of the worst managed Nandos in the country. I used to go to Nandos maybe 4 times a month. Now about 1-2 times a month. There is never a time you go to this Nandos and everything just works. They have either run out of straws, or their drinks machine isn’t working, or there is no chicken. Or the chicken is burnt because the grillers maybe forgot the f chicken it already steam cooked before it ever hits the grill. Needs to be on the grill only a couple of mins for grill lines. Sauce added and grilled a min then taken off. Sometimes utensils are missing or no tissues entirely. Have their management team not been trained in procurement and quality assessment? It’s frankly embarrassing to get chicken and chips this wrong. Consistently. The last straw for me were these sad over fried chips. They had run out of chicken the last 3 times I visited for instance, at a reasonable time too not late in the evening. The thing is there was a time where the value proposition was ok. Now with a refillable drink coming in at £4.25 for something I know costs about £0.20 per portion is beyond criminal. I encourage you to be more demanding with the staff. Send more food back unless it’s perfect and worthy of the price they are charging for basic chicken and chips. In 2016 an average half chicken with 2 sides and a drink was about £12.95, today it’s coming in at £19.45 a 50% increase. Do you feel the service or food has increased in quality by even 10% let alone 50%? It’s only got worse. The chicken is noticeably smaller the food and service is worse. I’d rather avoid going now or visit the Preston branch that has better availability and service if I do go. Clean up your act. It’s unacceptable for the price you’re charging and I encourage all of you to up your pressure on the brand and staff to be better for the price it’s at now. You want to charge more? Great. We expect more in return. It’s only fair.
