Part of the The Halal Guys chain — see all 60 locationsFrom humble beginnings as a New York City hot dog cart to a world-renowned international restaurant chain, The Halal Guys story is the quintessential American Dream. The Halal Guys is defining a new, thriving segment for the restaurant industry: American Halal Food! The Halal Guys legend began in 1990, when the three founding partners opened up a hot dog cart on West 53rd & 6th Avenue in New York City. As business grew, they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal. That is when the famous platter of chicken and gyro over rice was born. And let's not forget about the famous white and red sauces! Fast-forward 25 years, five carts, two New York City restaurants, and millions of diverse customers served, The Halal Guys is growing yet again. Fans no longer have to be in NYC to experience The Halal Guys as they look to share American Halal Food all over the country and the world.
The owners are Muslim and have confirmed its halal status. From the management: 'The Halal Guys takes great pride in using only the highest quality, halal-certified meats. We know many of our customers like to know the sources of their food and we are happy to provide the Halal certifications for our chicken and our beef gyro. 100% halal food.'
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
I frequently go to this location but today I was treated very rudely and disrespectfully. I normally get the combo regular sized platter but due to personal preferences I decided to stick with chicken only. This time the chicken portion was not the usual amount so I simply asked for a tad bit more of the chicken maybe two to three small pieces. The gentleman who made the food shoved almost two more scoops of chicken onto my platter, so much to where I had to ask him to stop and that the serving was too much. He began to speak in Spanish to the woman who came to the register from the back. She proceeded to charge me $21 dollars for a $14.99 regular platter. I asked why was I being charged this amount when I simply asked for a few extra pieces being that the combo platter usually has a little more. I never asked for him to shove two more heaping scoops of meat into the container. The woman at the register demanded that I told that it would be extra and that I agreed, which I had not agreed and asked him to stop. I asked that my food be remade with the correct portion and the woman refused to correct my meal. I was forced to leave empty handed and hungry, after rushing on my lunch break to this location for food I refused to pay for something that I did not ask for. The woman did not consider that with the strong and apparent language barrier of the gentleman and myself that there was a need to provide anything less than exceptional service to a customer. The lady angrily and aggressively called me a liar when the solution should have been her listening instead of demanding a false narrative about my simple request. TIME WASTED. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
