From humble beginnings as a New York City hot dog cart to a world-renowned international restaurant chain, The Halal Guys story is the quintessential American Dream. The Halal Guys is defining a new, thriving segment for the restaurant industry: American Halal Food! The Halal Guys legend began in 1990, when the three founding partners opened up a hot dog cart on West 53rd & 6th Avenue in New York City. As business grew, they recognized a huge demand from Muslim cab drivers looking for a halal food meal. That is when the famous platter of chicken and gyro over rice was born. And let's not forget about the famous white and red sauces! Fast-forward 25 years, five carts, two New York City restaurants, and millions of diverse customers served, The Halal Guys is growing yet again. Fans no longer have to be in NYC to experience The Halal Guys as they look to share American Halal Food all over the country and the world.
The owners are Muslim and have confirmed its halal status. From the management: 'The Halal Guys takes great pride in using only the highest quality, halal-certified meats. We know many of our customers like to know the sources of their food and we are happy to provide the Halal certifications for our chicken and our beef gyro. 100% halal food.'
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
Lets start this review saying that I understand the price increases related to food supplies . I definitely noticed that throughout the years food portions at places like The Halal Guys shrink down at least by 20% . That is no more plates with lots of rice or even salad . They are charging extra for Olives , Humus and others sides to be added to your meal . I also want to highlight a specifically situation at this location in Union NJ . I drove by one side of the store and I saw a sign saying that they offer a Meal Deal for $14 including a platter and a drink . I went inside the store by the other door with no sign and I ordered my platter . Never was greeted by any staff member , never was asked if I have the App ( I do have installed ) and when asked for a drink I tought that was included . I asked for the cup and he said that it was separate . I showed the door sign and he employee said that he can’t do anything because he didn’t applied the special to my order . End up paying for the platter , 18% tips , taxes and a separate drink . Overall, not happy as a customer
