We discovered Saffron while strolling along the port, and what a fortunate find it turned out to be. So we decided to come back for dinner tonight and chose to sit inside, which turned out to be just as enjoyable as their famous terrace. The dining room is warm and comfortable, with a calm atmosphere that lets you really focus on the food. We went for a very Iranian order: chelo kabob koubideh, chelo kabob barg, and a glass of dough. Every dish was done exactly the way it should be. The saffron rice was fragrant and fluffy, the koubideh tender and flavorful, and the barg juicy with that unmistakable taste of a proper marinade. The dough was authentic too — refreshing and perfectly balanced with the grilled meats. What impressed me most was that it didn’t feel like a “fusion” version of Persian food. It was the real thing, prepared with respect for tradition, and served with pride. The flavors immediately brought me back home, which is not something I can often say when eating Persian cuisine outside of Iran. Service was friendly and attentive without being pushy, and the whole experience carried an ease that made us feel welcome. Prices are more than fair for the quality and location, especially considering how authentic the dishes tasted. Saffron is a rare find in Nice — a place that serves truly Iranian food in a beautiful setting by the port, with staff who clearly care. For anyone craving genuine Persian flavors, this is the spot. Five stars without hesitation.
