I was impressed by the setup, very clean. What made me to go to this place was its halal status, which after seeing its menu , got me thinking. On the menu was strip bacon, I am trying to wrap my mind around it , that a joint can be halal and still serve bacon. Not sure what the halal status in reality is.
Chicken and beef are halal. Turkey is not halal. All sauces and condiments are halal. The hero signature sauce is halal because it's vegetarian based.
Yikes. I grew up a big fan of hero burgers. I didn't have heros for a long time and my wife and I decided to give it a try. My wife got a build your own burger with a side of poutine, and I went with the blue cheese burger with a poutine. Hate to say, but this is no longer the hero burger from my memory. In fact, it's a far cry from what they used to be. The burger patty itself wasn't bad, it was cooked well done but still juicy. But the condiments and the bun itself ruined it. Primarily the bun, which was dry and flaky; it spent too much time in the warmer. The poutine was borderline inedible. The gravy was watery so all the gravy sank to the bottom. My 2.5 year old daughter kept asking for 'soup' because thats what the poutine looked like at the bottom. Also, the gravy was salty as hell, it was not good. Service wise, the gentleman tried to do everything on his own, but it's not a good look if the cashier is also the one in the back making the burgers. I honestly believe he was the only person working here. It took about 25 min to get our food, and it came up to $45 inclusive.
