I’ve been coming to this Mary Brown’s location since 2012 and never really had any issues until about 6–8 months ago. Unfortunately, the quality and overall experience have gone downhill quickly. A few weeks ago, I watched the cashier take orders, pick something up off the floor, and then go to the back to assemble my food — without washing her hands. That was concerning. On another visit, I ordered a 4-piece meal and received four wings. I was never asked if that was okay. Recently, I was also told the wait time for chicken could be either 15 minutes or 45 minutes — they couldn’t give a clear answer. Tonight was the final straw. I ordered four pieces of chicken and a spicy chicken sandwich. The same employee who handled the cash register and debit machine (which are clearly not the cleanest surfaces) went straight to the back and began placing buns on the toaster without washing her hands. Shortly after, I was told they only had two pieces of chicken left. I wasn’t given a timeframe for when more would be ready, so I requested a refund. Food safety and consistency matter. If employees are not washing their hands between handling cash and preparing food, that’s a serious concern. If gloves aren’t being used, proper handwashing must be enforced. While food safety certification may not be mandatory in Alberta for every role, it absolutely should be when situations like this happen repeatedly. It’s disappointing to see a place I’ve supported for over a decade decline like this. I hope management addresses these issues before more long-time customers are lost.
