This fish and chips takeaway holds a very special place in my heart. When I was about 8 or 9 years old (I’m 33 now), my dad used to sit outside the Engen garage in Bree Street selling clothes. Money was tight back then, and whenever he could afford it, the one treat he would buy me from this very takeaway was a hot dog. That’s one of my earliest food memories, and it stayed with me all these years. Fast forward to this weekend, I finally returned after all this time and ordered that same hot dog. And honestly — nothing has changed. It tasted exactly the way I remembered it. One bite and I was flooded with memories from my childhood. It was simple, familiar, and perfect. The service was just as memorable. I had a small misunderstanding where I asked for the hot dog to be cut and thought it hadn’t been done. I went back in, and without any hesitation or attitude, they unwrapped it, made sure it was cut properly, wrapped it again, and handed it back to me with kindness. That level of service meant a lot to me. I’ll always cherish that moment. I’m sorry it took me so long to come back, but going forward, this will definitely be my go-to spot. I’ll gladly be returning, supporting them, and buying a lot more from them in the future.
