I worked here for one week. On the day I arrived to start the job, I met Sherif, the manager there. We agreed that my first paycheck would be issued after three weeks. I informed him that I would need weekly cash advances from my salary to cover living expenses—since I was both living and working on the premises—and that these advances would be deducted from my first full paycheck. On my very first day of work, I received a $60 advance; however, I quickly ran through that money. I then approached him again, explaining that I needed more cash to buy food and asking him to deduct this additional amount from my salary as well. He agreed and told me to come back the next day. When I returned the following day, however, he gave me nothing. Consequently, I ended up working for two days without any food. I decided to quit the job, reasoning that since he was unwilling to provide funds for food—to be deducted from my salary as we had agreed—there was no point in continuing. I told him that I was leaving but expected him to send me my earnings during the third week, just as we had originally arranged. However, when I called yesterday to inquire about my money, he verbally abused me using the vilest language. He claimed he didn't know me, denied that I had ever worked for him, and asserted that he owed me absolutely nothing. I attempted to call the company's main number to file a formal complaint, but I received no response. I intend to pursue every available legal avenue to recover my money, for the era of slavery and servitude has long since ended in this world—and American law does not tolerate such practices. Furthermore, no meat can be considered "Halal" if it is produced through the unpaid sweat and labor of those who work to provide it.
