very nice down to earth place. good fulfilling food and good portions. very humble owners. prices in par with other somali places. plenty of seating and musalla. 2 blocks down from masjid taqwa. no credit cards. cash only.

The rating on this review is slightly vague. Five stars for the food but the surroundings are"¦ No question, Br. Mohammad's chai is unmatched: creamy, strong peppered ginger flairs run through every sip and only $1.50 for a 12 ounce cup. The food is also very good"• "the best Somali fare around," I am told from east Africans and I agree (though I have never been to Somalia). The place is open well past 10pm- it's more like 2am. Here's the catch: if you have to use the washroom, do so ahead of time ("˜marginal' is an understatement), and if you're particular about kitchen cleanliness, order from your table; if you just want chai, help yourself and pay one of the servers on your way out. They're pleasant and work hard. This is a sister café to one in Mogadishu"• a place where taxi drivers come to unwind, play dominoes, and just relax (and unfortunately, often smoke outside the door). There is no menu and they may be out of certain items but again, there is no better chai and the food is very good, and it's a great place for late night dining. I brought a couple huffadh from London, of Desi origin, who left very satiated after an evening of leading 23 rakat of tarawih.
