Awesome Cheese and Spinach Pie
A1 Bakery is the real deal. I’d love to say I’ve been an A1 fan since day one, but I actually didn’t try this place for years and I genuinely regret that. I’m originally from a part of Sydney with incredible manoush, and I struggled to find anything comparable in Melbourne until I came here. They call it a “meat pizza,” but it’s essentially manoush, and it is so, so good. You absolutely need to have it with chilli and lemon, it’s fresh, flavourful and exactly what you want. The cheese pie (a halloumi-filled bread) is another standout. Both the meat pizza and cheese pie are incredibly affordable at around $6 each, give or take depending on the location. Amazing value for the quality. Service is always fast and friendly, and they usually have a great selection of sweets as well. I’m a big fan of their baklava and often grab a box to take home. The coffee is solid too, which makes it an easy all-round stop. I’ve been back countless times since my first visit and now make a point of bringing friends and family here whenever they’re visiting Melbourne. Definitely worth the hype.
