Great tasting mocktails and food that tastes as good as homemade. Portions just the right size too as some restaurants can be miserly and others can be unnecessarily wasteful. Pricey but not overly expensive - you get what you pay for.
Delicious food at Itihass restaurant in the heart of Birmingham. The restaurant is beautifully decorated in an old colonial style. Tables on two floors of this restaurant located on the canal side. An imaginative cocktail menu. We chose a Mumbai mojito and an Itihass Clover Club, both were very good. The menu offers a range of meat, fish and vegetable mains. We chose some unusual starters, okra bites and Spiced Beetroot Tikki ( from the street food menu). Both were delicious. For the mains we had a chicken dish, chickpea dish, rice and roti. The dishes were tasty and highly flavoured. Very generous portions. Service was attentive and professional. We really enjoyed our visit to Itihass and would recommend, you visit, if you wish to enjoy some inventive Indian cuisine.
Had an absolutely fantastic lunch with my Dad and Sister. Decor, service and food was all phenomenal! We ordered a few things to share…. CHAT PATTI GOL GUPPE Crispy wheat shells, deggi mirch spiced potato and Chickpeas, tamarind water, chaat Masala HADI WALA KEEMA Hand-cut baby lamb mince stewed with lamb bone marrow. METHI MURGH Finely chopped fresh fenugreek and green chillies MAKHANI MURGH Tender pieces of chicken taken straight from the clay oven and blended into a smoke tomato sauce with generous helpings of cream and yoghurt, and a hint of dried fenugreek. JEERA CHAWEL Cumin infused rice ROTI KI TOKRI A selection of assorted breads Perfect amount of food which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were great, would totally recommend!
This has been a regular for our family for a few years now, however, recent visits have been pretty poor. To begin with the restaurant was freezing, we had to eat with our coats on! It took just under an hour for our food to arrive, and when it did, it was barely warm. The table service was really poor, the waiter only came to take our order and deliver our food. No other check ins for drinks or whether we wanted or needed anything else. It’s a real shame as the owner is lovely! I think it’s time to find somewhere else as this has massively dropped in standard and customer experience.
Visited Ithihaas with my husband and had a great experience. The interiors are absolutely gorgeous, with a vintage, royal vibe that beautifully reflects Indian heritage—every corner is stunning. The food was amazing, especially the appetisers, which we really enjoyed. We both ordered the Bollywood Dream drink and it was delicious, with the perfect balance of sweetness and tartness from the fresh strawberries. We also tried the chicken dum biryani and dal makhni, both of which were beautiful and full of flavour. Must say it is on the higher side when it comes to Indian food, but it’s perfect for special occasions. Overall, a wonderful dining experience and definitely worth visiting.
Completely lives up to the hype. Excellent good quality upmarket indian restaurant with food on par with what I've had in delhi/ Mumbai 5 star hotel restaurants, yes actually. I've never been as skeptical of how good Indian food can get, but we went in a big group for an occasion. Kawaljit at reception was gracious and kind when we arrived late, thank you. The lamb chops were just that perfect large portion of gristle and fat free meat for one example. My picture is of the prettiest mango lassie and we've tried them everywhere! Dishoom remains my favourite in Birmingham though with this coming a close second! It's more expensive than the usual Bangladeshi curry house, but it's actually Indian. Treat yourself!
