The food is average. Not bad, not the greatest. They have buffets during Ramadan. A few years ago it gave us both terrible food poisoning, and a quick search on Facebook showed that others were also affected who also went to Shahi the previous night (and being Ramadan, the cause of the food poisoning is easy to determine). The health inspectors had to get involved, and it was not a good experience. Shahi Chinese is not that great. It\'s not even mediocre, I would avoid it.
I can't believe someone will be this cheap. I was at dinner with family, when I saw a worker pour back left over chatni
Worst customer service and average food. Rude staff.
Worst food I've ever eaten and we ended up with stomach ache by the time we got home. We got nehari from them twice and it was not bad( no match to Sabri), but unfortunately we decided to dine in today. We ordered fronteir chicken, pasanda kebab and naans. Naan was the only thing that was fresh and tasted good. Frontier chicken was dry and stale and pasanda kebab were scorchy and dry. Salad which was brought in small plate accompanied by two kind of chutneys was brown and unappetizing. The worst part was we constantly had to shoo away a fly which kept trying getting into our food and all this was observed by any server who walked past our table. Go to this place only if you have extra money to waste and are ready for low quality food. They are not even worth a star.
Food is terrible. Great location and facility. Service is also good but food is not good at all.
The restaurant has moved to another location in Villapark but still on E North Ave, not far from the other location. The ph no. is the same. You can call and ask for their new address. The older location is converted to a Banquet Hall. The new place is a really nice sitdown restaurant. Very beautiful decoration. Doesn't make you feel that you are in a traditional desi restaurant. Very nice place to take your family or friends or your work colleagues. The food quality was good but very expensive. Nehari was excellent. Naans were good too. We spent about $80 for 4 people. Only ordered two soda cans. No juice or lassi.
Clean and average food! Like the Falooda and fresh made naan here!
New comparatively clean restaurant on north avenue but still feel congested due to close seating. Desi food has always been good except for biryani. Have tried their burgers, excellent but quite $$$.
Decided to go to their new location today 2/18/2013 with co-workers today. We ordered 3 dishes: Nihari/Chicken Karahi/Chicken Biryani. Nihair and Chicken Karahi were good but Chicken Biryani was not good at all, it did not deserve to be called Chicken Biryani when you put curry on the bottom of the plate and top it with plain rice. I complained to the server who did not seem to care a bit. Definitely not going back for biryani ever at this place especially when the server does not say sorry or at least say something! It was not like I was looking for my money back.
Food is very tasty. Environment is okay. There is one waiter who really lacks people skill . Others are fine. Really low standards for sanitation. My wife found a spider in the food once. We didn't go back for about a year after that. Now we do go since there aren't many halal places around but we are always careful.
so it was a saturday night, I ordered 6 nihari and 15 naans, when I opened the first box of nihari infront of my guest my wife jumped suprised to see cockroaches in it, I called the restaurant and they said to bring it back, the guy in the beard at the front desk said the owner is busy catering and will call me back, which he never did, COME ON GUYS ROACHES IN FOOD, IT IS DISGUSTING, AT LEAST CALL ME BACK AND SAY SORRY, IF ANYONE WANTS TO SEE THE PICS MESSAGE ME, ALSO WILL BE FORWARDING THE PICS TO FDA TO HAVE AN INSPECTION DONE AT THE RESTAURANT.
decent place if you are in the area... there other location on roosevelt was little better. I luv desi food but i look for zabiha fast food places
Nihari wasnt bad, naans were good
If you lie where you buy your meat then its true, we cant trust you, avg food or not.
Definitely above average. Very good service! You can pray there. Liked there iftari setup. Little bit pricy but atleast don't have to go all the way to Devon. Liked there Nihari and Chicken 65.
I called them to ask where to they buy their chicken from. They said barakat foods, zabiha halal & al wahid grocery. I already know that barakat foods & zabiha halal are actually zabiha but I wanted to investigate Al Wahid. I called Al Wahid where do they buy their chicken from. They said Yousuf bhai. I called Yousuf bhai (Zabiha Halal), they said AL Wahid doesn't buy Chicken from them. Hence, THE CHICKEN IN SHAHI NEHARI IS DOUBTFUL AS THEY ARE MIXING! MEAT IS FINE THOUGH AS THEY ARE BUYING MEAT FROM YOUSUF BHAI WHICH IS CERTIFIED BY SHARIAH BOARD.
I have tried the chicken makhani and the Philly Cheesesteak. The Philly Cheesesteak was not much of a Philly Cheesesteak, but whatever it was, it was good. They also allowed us to make Maghrib salat. 5 stars.
Its taste is not as good as when it used to be Sabri. Plus, price has gone up much there. I think food is OK but not for the price.
Excellent Food. Try the Neharee, Dum ka Keema and chaplee Kebobs. Fresh naans, and to top it off, the faluda is AWESOME! They also have an excellent arrangement for Iftar for the entire month of ramadan. AWESOME
Was not thrilled to eat here. Heard a lot about their Gyro Bugger, ordered it, what I go was a greasy patty of meat with Gyro meat on it. Would not go there again to try that sandwich. My wife tried their Chicken club sandwich which was pretty decent.
This place has become my fav. place to eat now. Been there 6 times this year and always been consistent, great food and good service. We invited about 20 family members to their sunday brunch this past summer and it was surprisingly good. Although for the price I think they should include pop too but thats another story. Its a little on the pricy side but well worth it. All in all, I will give it a 4 star, if you are in the neighbourhood, definately try it.
Chef Shakir from Shahi Nihari was caught purchasing 20 boxes(800 pounds) of chicken from Restaurant Depot, As we all know Restaurant Depot does not sell Zabiha Halal meat. Just so every muslim knows.
We liked hot n spicy on roosevelt rd. It merge with Shahi and then prices started to rise. The only good part is that taste is still there. Usually very busy and congested, but good for carryout. Beside nihari, one should try seekh fry, chicken charga. Naan is very good.
