Hong Chang Xing

Awful place. Just went in to eat at this place tonight after seeing it serves halal food. Food came out stone cold and had obviously been pre cooked. Waitress took food and reheated in a microwave in front of us. Whilst in the midst of eating we were handed the bill and told to pay up. When questioned response was "money, money" with hand gestures. We left the money and exited the restaurant. Really disgusted by service. Do not go there.

Good restaurant. I REALLY ENJOY FOOD AFTER EATING VEG AND SEAFOOD FOR 2 weeks. But I dont like thet serve alcohol. But good restaurant where u can enjoy your mral with halal food

A branch of this famous restaurant is located at No. 1 Yunnan South Road cnr Yin An Dong (East) Road, similar to but smaller than the Main Shop. I found the Peking Duck very impressive, priced only 88 Yuan for dual (crispy pieces wrapped in thin breadsheets plus ducksoup) order.

It took us a while to find this place. The entrance is on a side street. You go into a small lobby and take the elevator to the 10th floor. The menu is filled with mainly typical Chinese dishes fo the locals. we were not sure on a lot of them so we went with some safe choices. You'll have a lot fun with the English translations on the menu. Beef is referred to Cow and Cowboy. Lamb is referred to as Sheep. Some of the translations left us scrathing our heads like the beef dish just labeled as "Tastes like honey". Fun aside the prices are very cheap but the portions are small (still cheap though). The taste was fantastic. Nothing like what I have tasted in the US. The meat, beef or chicken justs mealts in your mouth. If I'm back in Shanghai will be back. If you walk around the area within a couple of blocks there is another small Halal Chinese Cafe type. I could not tell you the name as it was in Chinese but you can't mistake the Arabic Halal sign which is large. Also there is a Turkish restaurant called Karvan close by. Food was good but very pricey compared to Hong Chang Xing.

This is a high-end halal restaurant in Shanghai located in the Bund area, only a few steps away from Nanjing Road and People's Square. We tried the Mongolian Hotpot - strips of mutton and beef that you cook at your table in a boiling hotpot and then dip into peanut sauce. The sauce can be made spicier with a red pepper mixture that comes with the hotpot. We also ordered excellent mutton dumplings and beef egg rolls. Overall this is an excellent restaurant with a very convenient location for tourists.
