I was in Montreal and stopped at Adonis to pick up three dozen fatayer from the bakery section to bring back to Toronto as a gift for my parents. I paid around $33–$35 for two dozen and about $13–$15 for the remaining dozen. The best before date clearly said November 21st, so I assumed everything was fresh. When I got back to Toronto and unpacked them, I was shocked to find major mold on the bottoms of the fatayer. Not a small spot—the bottoms were covered in mold, and the spinach had visible fuzz on it. The photos say it all. This is completely unacceptable for something that still had days before the best-before date. And because I was already back in Toronto, I couldn’t even return to the store to deal with the situation in person. To make matters worse, the staff serving me barely paid attention, were chatting with each other, and didn’t check what they were handing out. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but now I’m out over $45 and all the food went straight into the garbage. Really disappointing experience from a store I normally trust when I’m in Montreal. UPDATE: I went back today and spoke with a manager, she refunded me.
