About Chowrasta Market

Built originally in 1890 by the George Town Municipality, Chowrasta Market is the most famous wet market in Penang. In the early days, the vendors in the market were primarily Indian Muslims from South India. Hence, it derived its name Chowrasta which in Urdu means "four cross roads".
