Jalan Gajah Mada, Medan, North Sumatra
The owners are Muslim and have confirmed its halal status. All food at this restaurant is certified halal.
Clean, very reasonably priced. Indonesian Sumatra food, Islamic environment. A la carte or take-away (recommended) available. The restaurant in Medan is a branch of the Garuda Nasi Padang chain; other branches are in Jakarta and Singapore. Several Indonesian Muslims assured me that the owners are Muslims. No pork or alcoholic drinks are visible, while the workers wear decent Muslim dresses.
Jalan Gajah Mada, Medan, North Sumatra
This is part of a chain of nasi padang restaurants with branches in Medan, Jakarta and Singapore. I was assured by several Indonesian Muslims that the owner is a Muslim, while the branch in Singapore is said to possess the Halal certification. Serves rice with a variety of beef, chicken and seafood dishes. If you eat there, I was forewarned that they will put almost the whole set of dishes on your table, but will charge only for what you have actually touched or consumed. To be on the safe side I requested for a take-away and ate them in our hotel room. The price was very reasonable - betwee Indonesian Rp 29,000 - Rp 50,000 for 2 persons.
