Maryland Chicken is one of the most recognised independent fast food chains in the UK. It is a remarkable feat for a family business that started in a small rural town in the UK in the early 1990's. The first store was opened in Blackburn, Lancashire in 1991. Today, there are 12 outlets sprawled across the UK in seven locations.

I have eaten in two of the Marland outlets in Leicester, this one and another near the Shires shopping centre. Both had the same quality so I imagine its the same for every outlet. For the Narborough road outlet you usually have to park on the side street as Narborough is a busy main road but this is no problem. Food is fantastic. As a fried chicken lover this is the best LITERALLY THE BEST chicken I have ever had. There's something about the coating on the chicken wings; its spicy and tasty but just the right level of spice. The chicken peices has a different coating, a little salty but also delicious but not spicy like the wings. In both the wings and pieces the chicken is moist, tender and prfectly cooked. The fries are always cooked to perfection - not over done not undercooked. There is also a choice of burgers; also very tasty. I have eaten in a lot of fried chicken places as I love the stuff but Maryland wins hands down. Price is also unbeatable - although I haven't been there in a while as I no longer live in the area I used to pay £1.99 for 2 pieces of chicken and fries and it was very filling. Highly highly recommend you try this place if you like fried chicken.
