I went with my friend and ordered the platter for two, one coffee and one tea with milk, it's definitely worth the price. The staff were friendly and helpful when we were choosing from the menu. The private area was great and had plenty of room. The overall atmosphere was good and there was moderate chatter which is to be expected. I enjoyed it very much and I definitely will be coming back here soon.
Salama Restaurant (Somali & Yemeni) – Coventry Road I visited Salama one evening and overall had a really good experience. I ordered a large platter with rice, meat (I’m not 100% sure whether it was lamb or beef), soup, and vegetables. Everything was genuinely tasty and well cooked. The portion sizes are very generous. Although it’s advertised as a platter for two, honestly three people could comfortably eat from it, and even four if you’re sharing properly. I was on my own and couldn’t finish it, so I took the rest home – no complaints there. The food came with a spicy, tomato-based chilli sauce which was really nice and added a good kick without being overwhelming. I also had a cold fizzy drink with it, which went perfectly with the meal. The restaurant itself is pleasant and family-friendly. There’s seating to eat in, including private booth-style areas, which is great for families or anyone who prefers a bit of privacy. They also offer takeaway and are happy to pack food up for you. Price-wise, it is a little on the higher side, but considering the portion sizes, it works out well if you order a platter and share it between a few people. Overall, I’d definitely recommend Salama for anyone looking for authentic Somali and Yemeni food with big portions and a comfortable dining atmosphere.
Very bad in taste. They are serving not a fresh food. Very small in quantity. And not in a good oil. After the serving it's just felt like gathered and after eating oil is stuck on the tongue. If there are any negative stars I will give them. Please don't try it
Date of Review: 16 January 2026 (Look at the pics and vids for my review) Allahumma baarik I came here on a recommendation from a friend while looking for a proper Somali place to eat, and honestly, this spot delivered far more than I expected. Side note before we even step inside. How am I slipping on Coventry Road thinking it’s cold and icy, only to realise it’s actually grease on the pavement? That alone tells you everything you need to know about the density of food spots in this area. My expectations were already rising. We walked into Salama and were greeted straight away by the owner, who asked us what we wanted. I told him it was our first time. Without hesitation, he said, “Okay, I’ll do a platter for two.” I had to stop him right there. I told him politely, I don’t do this sharing business. I want my own platter. I ordered exactly this: rice and spaghetti, lamb shank, beef suqaar, raisins, a banana, one Sprite, one water. Total came to £21.50, which already felt fair before the food even arrived. When it came out, it was piping hot and looked like a proper feast. Honestly, it looked like a masterpiece. You could tell it had just come off the stove. No reheated nonsense, no shortcuts. The lamb shank was huge and incredibly tender. The only criticism I can give, and I am being very picky here, is that a small part of it was slightly dry. And when I say slightly, I mean maybe 2 percent. The other 98 percent was juicy, soft, and fell apart beautifully. The rice was on another level. Full of flavour, perfectly cooked, and clearly made with care. The spaghetti surprised me the most. Whatever the Italians taught the world, it clearly made its way into this kitchen because that spaghetti alone could stand as a main dish. Rich, comforting, and properly seasoned. Now the beef suqaar. SubhānAllāh. This was something else entirely. Every bite hit differently. Deep, layered flavours, perfectly cooked beef, and spices that kept revealing themselves as you ate. I genuinely wished I had ordered more of it. The portion was generous, but it was that good. The platter was more than enough food. Massive lamb shank, a solid portion of beef suqaar, and a generous serving of both rice and spaghetti. I was full well before finishing, but that did not stop me. This place feeds you properly. I will say this without hesitation. This is comfortably above Al Kahaf in London. If you want to be fed properly, this is the place. They take card and cash, they have toilet facilities, and they even have a place to pray, which is a big plus. Everything felt welcoming, relaxed, and well run. They have 3 or 4 booths with a partition so you can eat in privacy and get stuck in with your feast. This was a genuinely well recommended place, and I would absolutely come back without thinking twice. Final word: If you genuinely want to eat, not just snack, not just taste, but properly eat and then go home and have the kind of sleep that only comes from being fully satisfied, then order exactly what I did. Rice and spaghetti, lamb shank, beef suqaar, raisins, banana, and a drink. That combination is the key to all your problems.
One of the best restaurants on Coventry Road, a great portion size for the price and the meat falls right off the bone. Not the cleanest place but the food makes up for it. Staff are friendly and the food comes quick as well.
