One of the best African restaurants I've had. Sambusas are incredible and the sports plate is also really amazing. Highly recommend!
Excellent
Delicious food! Serving portions are pretty decent as well. For take out, they were willing to separate rice and meat. Chicken suqaar, beef suqaar, and sambosa are all very good.
Excellent food. The goat is superb, and so is the sports platter. Kay Kay banana with chicken is unusual to the desi palate but excellent. The chapati is soft and exceptional. The service is slow, so call 30 minutes ahead. Also, check out the close to 500 reviews on Yelp to see pictures and menu
Great food! Must must go. Try their goat with rice and chapati with chicken (kay kay chicken) and the sports platter. Very friendly people.
S L O W!
My wife had the chicken suqaar and I had the beef suqaar and both were great! We'll definitely come back if we're in the area. Restaurant was clean, prices are reasonable, and owners/staff are very nice -- can't ask for more than that!
The place is a bit hidden and not that easy to find unless you know about it. Great tasty food! The samoosa's are the best! Best I've had in a very long time
Wow! Jubba deserves more than five stars. The food is exquisite, the plates are generous, and the staff are warm and welcoming. Everything they made from samosas to the meal, and even the tea was delicious. The food is made with love. Definitely coming back. --they need to advertise their place... It's excellent--
Best non desi food I ever ate Sports platter with goat and chicken you won't be disappointed.very large portions of meat. Choose rice it's good.
Excellent food that never disappoints. We always order the chicken sarkar with pasta, chicken wraps and samboosas. The owners are extremely friendly and the food is always consistently tasty. We get take-out from Jubba almost once a week.
Hi all, Last week I went to this place with my family. We wanted our visiting parents to try a different food. We arrived around 9pm. We ordered chicken sukaar (as usual, their best serving) and Chicken Steak. I'll mention about the food later. The service. The staff was very helpful and welcoming. It took a while for our food to arrive but in the mean time one of the lady served us with some sweet appetizer. She actually cooked fresh rice for us. I highly appreciate her effort. We all loved the food. Good place, Great food and Excellent staff.
Excellent food at a good price . The sambosa are awesome and so is the sukar
Though its a drive Jubba is just good homecooked somolian food. The portions are very generous, each plate can easily fill two people. The sports platter is giant, its enough for 3-4 and very delicious. All the meat is perfectly seasoned and the small spiced yogurt just speaks homestlye :) The goat is done fried style (tala ghosht). Want to try the kay-kay & suqaar next time around. Its a bit of a drive and if your into ambiance and decor you may not like it, but the food is a must try.
Jubba is good somali food and great if you are an avid meat eater... good choices...and large proportions...and place to pray is the best part...
Jubba is a little out of the way, but well worth the trip. With high quality ingredients, and friendly, professional service, Jubba is sure to please. If it's your first time here, try the "sports plate." It's basically your choice of steak, chicken, and/or goat, grilled and served with your choice of rice or pasta. I don't know what they do to that rice and pasta, but I couldn't stop. Even my friend, who normally picks at his food, devoured his share. The meat, especially the steak, is very high quality. Also, don't miss out on the "suqaar" and "kay kay" plates. Basically, the more fun it is to say the dish, the more you'll enjoy eating it. All this place needs is a dessert menu (although the FREE tea is sweet enough to count as dessert), and a vegetarian dish or two. In any case, if you're in the mood for something different, give Jubba a try!
Delicious food. Portions are big. I went with two of my friends and they loved the food as well. Give it a try.
Great Somalian food! You should definitely try it! Try the traditional free tea as well... yummy! The place is small though and does not have lot of seating area. It might not be standard clean (like fancy restaurants) as well.
The food here is delicious! I've never had Somali food so I didn't know what to expect. I'm so glad I went. We went with another couple and we ordered the Sports Plate (chicken/goat combo with rice and paratha) and the Beef Suqar separately. Also ordered the sambosa. All of it was SO good! The food is so well seasoned and that paratha was so fresh and yummy! Definitely looking forward to coming back here.
We ordered Sports plate and rice/chicken is excellent. Owners offered Somalian bread maybe since they noticed we were their for a couple of hours.
Great restaurant and service!I had the goat cutlet while my wife ordered the chicken suqar. The goat was good while the chicken was awesome. The somali tea was simply amazing. I really liked somali cuisine and will definitely have some next time I am in the Bay area.
Excellent food. We ordered the sports platters and Kay Kay along with pitchers of mango drink. Everything was very delicious, the portions were really generous (we had too much left-over food) and the staff was extremely courteous. I am glad to have found this place close to where I live. Definitely going back and highly recommended.
Excellent Food and Customer Service Here. I tried one of the Beef plates (# 2 on the menu) and it comes with your choice of bread, rice or pasta. I chose rice. It also comes with a salad. Very large portions. Very friendly staff and customer service at affordable prices. Try to complimentary somalian tea which has some ginger in it, so it is a little strong, but tastes good. Highly recommended.
I'd never had Somalian food before but wanted to try something different yesterday. After reading all the reviews on Yelp and Zabihah, my hubby and I decided to try out this place. We were both really impressed! We ordered a lot, portions were huge and service was attentive, not to mention prices were extremely reasonable! The restaurant looked more like a diner and could be classed as such since it opens at 6 am and caters to the hungry commuters at the Ohlone Train Station. We tried the Sports Plate (Combo of two: either chicken, beef, goat on a bed of delicious rice and/or spaghetti), and at the recommendation of other reviewers, we tried the Roasted Goat Cutlet (a traditional Somali dish). Have to say, we're not big fans of goat just cos it's so slimy and fatty, but I can see why goat lovers would like this dish as it was cooked to perfection. Would love to go back and try the Kay Kay as it sounded delicious! I did want to try their version of the Injera bread but they were all out. Shame we're about 45 mins away, otherwise I would totally be a regular here! Hurrah for Somalian food!
Everyone should go to this place. absolutely clean place. Owner is very generous and friendly.we order beef steak but did not find it tender. So the owner did not charge us for that instead substituted us for chicken we like. love the tea as well.
Amazing food, great service and excellent owners. I went there last night after reading the reviews and I think everyone "MUST" visit this place. The prices are good and above all the people who are running this place are very down to earth. This is a bit far from my home but I am sure I will visit this place at least 4 times a year if not more.
The chicken suqar is great. Prices are reasonable, the place clean and the service friendly. Portions are generous. T
Finally a place that South/Central San Jose folks can easily visit and enjoy a sumptuous meal. We visited about 2 weeks ago. Based on other recommenders we ordered the Sports dish, and they over-sized it. 5 of us were able to eat from one. The food was delicious and everyone in family loved it. They also provide bananas before and after the meal? Apparently Somali food is not considered complete without servings of Bananas in betweeen ;-). They had a convenient place for Prayers, and nice clean bathrooms. If this restaurant was in SF, I would still love to drive to it (50 mi) every once in a while. The service was very courteous, kid friendly and they checked upon us frequently. I would highly recommend folks in South Bay to see/taste it for yourself.
This place is spectacular ! If you haven't already been here you are missing out. The food is extremely delicious (get the Sports plate--it's for 2 people but can feed 3 people easily) and is so tasty ! The food is cooked and prepared well. The portions are huge and the prices are really low ! The service is wonderful (really nice family who runs it) and the have such nice Somali Tea free of charge while you wait for your food ! Nice setting as well. Please support this great establishment !
I am not very fond of trying new cuisine, but after reading reviews about this place me and my husband decided to give it a try so we went to this restaurant all the way from San Mateo and trust me it was worth it...i haven't come across such nice staff ever in my life...they make you feel so special, they are extremely friendly, honest and nice...food was good too everything was fresh and nicely prepared...they give us bananas for free to accompany with the entrees as this is how they eat Somali food....the place was very clean and everything was superb be it their service/food anything we are definitely going here again.
mashaAllah! Was out in San Francisco for work and had some time to kill. Drove down with a co-worker because neither of us had tried Somali food. The staff is friendly (they will give the salaams). We were offered samples of food to see if we liked it (i.e. try before you buy) and they gave us free sambosas. The portion sizes are huge so bring an apetite and don't plan on eating the rest of the day. They didn't charge us for our drinks and, for some reason, charged us a $1 less for our meals. When we mentioned it to them, they gave us the rate anyway. I'm not usually a tipper but they got a 30% tip from me. Excellent food and excellent service, I definitely would recommend.
My husband and i like to taste various cuisines and so after reading the reviews here, we tried this place. The restaurant is very clean and has a casual ambience. The owner is very hospitable and makes you feel special. The food deserves a lot of compliments and is very economical for large portion sizes. We will definately go again!
Cool place. Food is good and good service mashallah. I've only gone with a group and you pay $10 a person and they bring a huge plate (proportiate to how many people are with you) of food for everyone to eat from. They serve really good juice and gave us samosas (not sure if that came with the meal or they just gave it to us).
I Love somalian food so i liked this restaurant very much. The food was delacious and the restaurant was pretty much clean. I Enjoyed their sports dish which is enough for 3 people. I will definately go back at this restaurant again.
