It\'s tough to find a hakka restaurant that offers tasty dishes with hand slaughtered halal meat. So we go out our way to order from Salt & Pepper. We love their lollipop chicken and chinese biryani dishes. The restaurant is spacious and they offer a place to pray when not too busy. Staff have always been courteous

Was just there on March 1 with a group of friends and was hoping to have a delicious experience. Unfortunately we were greatly disappointed. Seems that the dishes that were our "regulars" some years back have changed entirely. Our veggie hakka chow mein was made with peas and cubed carrots! When was the last time you had peas and carrots in your chow mein? It was not until the next day when I was trying to consume the left-overs at home that it dawned upon me that the peas and carrots were from the frozen veggie mix that is commonly available in most grocery stores. I guess this was one way to skimp on the cost of preparing this dish. The chilly chicken had almost no taste and the crispy beef (which I was told by the server to be a "speciality") was burnt pieces of meat so tough that my teeth/gums were still hurting the next day. The service was lacking, as usual. Dishes were brought out at long intervals with base items arriving early and curries etc, showing up much, much later. Those that received their drinks at all got them close to the end of the meal. The establishment in and of itself is filthy. The carpet which used to be red is now utterly blackened and appears to never have been steam cleaned. Perhaps they have given up trying to clean it. I almost felt like the soles of my shoes would get dirty walking there and felt much better walking in the freshly fallen snow outside to clean them off. Sadly we will not return to this place until and unless someone tells us that they have undergone a complete renewal.....from the chef, to the servers to the furnishings.

Regaining momentum and quality. There was a time where S+P was on a downward spiral but I think ownership noticed empty booths and brought changes. Have made few trips past 2 months and quality of food and freshness is back. Like somebody mentioned in a review earlier, trick with Hakka is not every item will suit you. For me I really like their Dry Chilli Beef, Mancurian Hakka noodles and S+P Special Chicken.

We are family of 5 and are casual customers and spend about 70$ on every visit. Food is excellent but the Customer Service is something that will leave you unhappy at the end of your eating session. We ordered their so called "Special Fish (Dry)" and couple of other dishes. But the fish had chicken and fish pieces mixed together and we din't realize that until we were done half of it. As soon as we saw the different pieces we called in the waiter and instead of apologizing or charging us half price he is arguing with us saying we should have pointed that out earlier while its not the first time we ordered fish from them, but we din't bother arguing with an idiot as no manager was on duty and decided this was our last visit.

Having eaten at almost every Indo-Chinese joint in GTA, this restaurant ranks in the bottom 5%. The food was expensive (by over 30%), quantity was insufficient and taste was among the worst. A standard meal for two(three dishes) will set you back by $40, when it costs between $25-30 at most other places. Leave the Indo-Chinese cooking to the ethnic Chinese from South Asia. When desis put their fingers in this area, they create disasters like Salt and Pepper.

POOR customer service! I was there to dine with family and we wanted a question answered regarding the menu. Since the waitress was unable to help we requested to speak with the manager. The waitress was sent back asking us to walk upto the manager standing by the kitchen! I've never been to place where a customer was made to run around a restaurant.

Here's the deal with this place. Desi Chinese does not get any better than this. Spicy, mild, sweet, sour, thanda, garam, naram, whatever ... they have alot of variety and they're pretty good with all the dishes. This is rocket science so we don't expect the best of the best. However, at Salt n Pepper, there is always an item to suite anyone from the crowd. If a person does not like the item, it's just a matter of bad choice. Try something else next time. We've been to lucky's, fawly's, eddie's, ming room, etc. This place is the best from appetizers to dessert. Good job! Keep those woks flippin! Alienix

I would not recommend it. The food was extremely spicy. We ordered hot and sour soup chilli chicken, and we couldn't eat it, and we eat pretty spicy food at home. But this was way too much. I asked the manager about it and he said if I order chilli chicken, it would contain chilli. We have had chilli chicken at a lot of other places, and it is not this hot.

Above average halal restuarant. Good food, good service. They listen to your specific requirements (for example: low salt) and do a good job of complying. Except for the hot-n-sour soup, other eats tasted good.

Went their through reference. Had a bad experience. Ordered chicken corn soup and a major dish plus the chicken spring roll. All the stuff had a bad chicken smell as it was not fresh. Go at your own risk. Not worth it after spending 40$.

Excellent food. Good hospitality. Might want to look into that furniture it gives the impression of a fast food restaurant. Also the music is way too hindian. People go in expecting chinese so some chinese music would do wonders to the ambience. Oh and please hire more than one waiter! :)
