Located in Five Points South, just across 10th Avenue from Five Points Hardware. For over 3 years, we have been servicing the Birmingham area with fine Middle Eastern Cuisine. We are the jewel of Middle Eastern foods and traditional cooking. We cook and season to perfection, Absolutely delicious. Our workers are hospitable and very friendly. We offer appetizers while you wait for your food to be freshly prepared.

It was a total disappoinment. We ordered 2 shawarma combo, 1 gyro and one shish kabob. Shich kabob was OK but the chicken shawarma was horrible. I have never tasted such a tasteless chciken. Charging for the tip is also not fair. So not worth for the money.
We bought a family platter for dinner last Thursday. The food was served quickly and was very tasty. The serving portions were big so though we were all very hungry, we still got a second full meal out of the leftovers. Service is excellent. They also allowed us to pray salaah in a pantry area at the back.
Great Food! I come with my family every time we visit Birmingham. the ghallabha, mushroom burger and the grilled veggies are my favorite!
Great food and service. Reasonable prices in a place like Birmingham.
Food was ok but service is very bad. Never go there again.
Since I got here in the US, I've never tasted or experinced a place better than Makarios. I've been here a year so far and travlled across many states but yet to find a good place to grill the lamb chops authentically in the mideterrenian way. So far, I've been there for four times and never complained about a single thing. Another thing I noticed a couple of times when I was there is that not only Muslims or Arabs liked it but also American and many other ethinc groups did too. I'm very glad for our Muslim borther who owned the place and may Allah bless what they do.
Thanks to Makario's, the Middle Eastern/Mediterannean food that made Dearborn, MI famous is now available in Birmingham. It opened about a year ago, and has since become a must-visit landmark in the 5-Points/Southside district. Nearly everything I have tried on the menu has been at least satisfactory if not down right amazing. The shawarma are juicy and savory, but the kabobs are the reason you must visit this place. Simply the best in town. As a student at nearby UAB, Makario's is a staple for myself and my friends. And with a 100% zabiha menu, what's not to love? The place appears small and unassuming. But they recently added a nice outdoor seating area which is nice in the summer. Definitely one of the best places to eat in Birmingham! EDIT 2/21/09: After receiving inconsistent/contradictory information at different times from the management regarding the halal status of Makario's, I will ammend my review to say that I cannot vouch for the authenticity of this establishment's halal status. The most recent inquiry quoted the management as saying that they do not serve halal meat.
