About Nasi Padang Sederhana

In Bali, it is important to know that although Indonesia in mainly a Muslim country, Bali is largely Hindu and they love to eat their specialty food - 'Babi Guling' (Roasted Pork!). To be safe, look for Nasi Padang restaurants which can be found almost everywhere in Bali. These are mainly run by Sumateran migrants who are mainly Muslims.

Nasi Padang restaurants always serve rice with different types of meat and vegetable dishes. They usually serve these dishes in separate small plates and later they will charge you based on how many dishes that you eat. This usually costs a little more. To get cheaper meal, go to the food display counter and ask them to mix all the dishes that you want in one plate of rice. A word of caution: hygiene may not be of high standard in these places. If you are not sure whether or not the dishes are freshly cooked, especially in the evening, go for the dry dishes alone and avoid the sauces.
