Over the years there have been changes to ownership in the meat department, but I believe it has been consistent for the last 2-3 years. I have experienced a lot of bad meat in the Bay Area, places where I have been sold spoiled meat, places where chicken has been frozen, thawed and re-frozen, places where the goat is old and tough to eat. Besan is pretty consistent. They usually have a good stock, a wide variety of cuts, including chicken breast and ground chicken, they have the case fully stocked so you can see what you are buying. I have been coming for years and it's not the nearest halal market to my home, it's worth the 20 min drive for quality and consistency. My only negative is that a few weeks ago I was sold bad ground beef. It had a terrible smell to it and took a lot of work to get the smell out of the meat to make it edible. I am hoping it was just a bad batch and doesn't happen again.

I liked the location of this store and the fact that I can always get parking, not to mention my desi groceries all at the same time. The store itself has a great variety of cut meats and to my surprise, it also sells organic chicken! That alone is worth the trip! Staff were friendly and welcoming and very helpful.

I just went there today. There is a lot of middle eastern food. There is also halal meat (chicken, lamb, beef, ..). The people are nice (they are from palestine) and the prices are ok.
