About Uighur Restaurant

Located in the heart of Shanghai on Yishan Road, this restaurant is hard to miss due to the crowd of people waiting for fresh kebabs being cooked on the outdoor grill. But it's inside this otherwise nondescript restaurant where the real treats are. The cuisine hails from the far western regions of China, where Uighur food - a hearty meat-heavy mix of Turkic and Chinese cuisines - is served with nightly Uighur musical performances on the main stage. This restaurant is popular with tourists, expats, and locals looking for authentic Muslim Chinese cuisine, including staples such as Xinjiang-style fried rice. If you're daring enough, you can even try specialties like Ox Penis stew. Don't worry - it's all halal!

If you dont speak mandarin, hard to read the menu. Take a mandarin speaking person to translate. Pretty inexpensive. Good option for halal food in Shanghai.

Busy restaurant. Food quality not as great. Chicken dish did not have good meat parts. Lamb skewer also had small chunks. Total lunch cost was 81 RNB. Around $13. The restaurant also had a musallah in the same floor.

Fantastic restaurant - we were greeted with a hearty salaam by the host and welcomed into a packed restaurant that is clearly popular with locals. We tried the chicken dapanji (a dish with chicken, peppers, and potatoes in a spicy sauce) that was amazing - the sauce was so good that we ordered a naan to finish what was left in the pot! We also ordered the laghman (thick noodles with vegetables and lamb) which was excellent.

A wonderful restaurant with happy Uighur employees greeting you at the door. Also features Uighur music and dance while you eat, and a small grill outside serves kabobs-on-the-go if you're in a hurry. If you're in the mood for some serious meat dishes, this place is for you. A wide variety of items on the menu, including such items as "Bull Penis in Soy Sauce" if you're so inclined.
