sadly, this place has a horrendous buffet, stale food (feels like re-cooked from the nigh before). nothing "fine" about this place, from service to delivery. over priced for simple food. however, all is not lost. their dinner menu (a la carte) is somewhat sustainable than their lunch buffet. if you have no other choices in the area, worthy tries are - chicken tikka, beef tikka, naan, and that's it! no salan/curry dishes will be fresh. All the best!

Food is average here, large place so plenty of seating. I have only tried the lunch buffet which wasn't too bad. Quite a variety for the price and dishes are always promptly refilled

Nice place to take non desi colleagues to try some butter chicken. Buffet does not have much choice. Butter chicken, karahi beef, tikka chicken and Nan is the regular choice at the buffet. Vey nice ambience

Great ambiance. Pleasant dining experience in terms of atmosphere and decor. Waiters are hesitant to answer if meat is halal or not. Food was not the best tasting - overuse of cardamom in pretty much everything.

I checked with the staff (two different people) and my friends who have visited the place tell its halal. Good variety of food but the taste is to suit non-desis so your choice.

The food is halal. The restaurant is nicely furnished and service is excellent. Their tandoori sizzlers and really good, nan, korma are all excellent. A bit pricey but you are paying for quality and good food. They also do buffet which very good price.

Salaam This restaurant is NOT all halal. We went in last week and asked is ALL the meat was halal and they said ONLY THE LAMB IS HALAL. So, the CHICKEN and ALL other meat is HARAM Service was not that great.

I have been to the Host (in Richmond Hill) several times for Lunch Buffet. Each time I ask them if they serve Halal Food and they say yes. I was told by a friend that they have a lot of Muslim cooks in the kitchen. They also have a Vase that says 'Allah' in Arabic. Also, Indian restaurants get a lot of Sikh customers, and they do not eat Halal meat, this is probably why they do not have a sign which verifies there Halal meat. The food is mild, but I enjoy the Tandoori Chicken with Naan. Decor is great.

On October 9th, 2006 (between 07:00 - 08:30) me and my family visited The Host for a family Iftari (Dinner). We asked Mr. Daroowala about the meat including chicken being zabihah or not? Mr. Daroowala who was the Manager present at the location informed that the meat is all Halal and reviews written on www.zabihah.com are all false information and The Host is going to lodge a complain against them. Mr. Daroowala insisted to eat. On October 15, 2006 I personally wrote to the owners asking whether the meat is Halal(zabihah) or not... to which I have yet not recived any replies. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AT ALL.

I went to this downtown location the other day and asked to make my food a little spicy since i find Host's food quite mild. However, they put loads of black pepper in our requested entree, with a terrible taste. I thing one thing which makes us go to this retaurant is their excellent deco however, the food is not that special when it comes to taste relative to the prices.

Responding to ibn-e-adam, I went to the Richmond Hill location and spoke to one of the servers there who is a Muslim and he said that the Richmond Hill and Mississauga locations serve halal food (all meats), but not the Yorkville location. I went personally to the Richmond Hill location to talk to someone because when I called the downtown location, they told me that all other meats, except chicken, are halal. The server at the Richmond Hill location told me that b'cos there were so many Muslim patrons in the RH and Miss. locations, they served Halal meat.

Seriously doubt that they serve halal food: called them and asked if they did and a hesitant reply was that yes they did serve halal meat. Called the very next evening and was told that all meats except beef are halal and again staff did not seem sure when responding but eventually said chicken is halal, beef is not (? why on earth would that be?). And yes they do serve alcohol.

Have been going to the host for several months, and by far it has been the most pleasant experience each time. I have never did take-out, since the restaurant caters more to dine-in then take out. The food is above average and dine-in venue and ambience is superb. I would recommend this place as a must go if your into a more upscale classy (meaning non-dhaaba) atmosphere.

If your thinking of taking food out don't very poor quality, its like they give you leftover microwaved food. The food does not seem to have the same quality as if you dine in. The food is excellent if you dine in. Its the take-out food, it is very poor quality and very expensive, your paying the same price as if you dined in. The food is very good dine-in wise, but they should put more of an effort for the take-out food, they don't even have a take-out menu, you have to go in and order off there dine in menu.
