Part of the Nandos chain — see all 99 locationsWe were born in South Africa, with a blend of Portuguese and British culture along the way. It all started in Mozambique, home of the hot sun, rich soil... and African Bird’s Eye Chillies. Also known as PERi-PERi. Small but mighty, these chillies have been used for centuries in local Mozambiquan cooking. The Portuguese then added a squeeze of lemon and kick of garlic to make the first PERi-PERi sauce. Used on just about anything, they found it was the ultimate baste for flame-grilling spatchcocked chicken. And it wasn’t long before two friends in Johannesburg came to experience the taste of PERi-PERi chicken and Nando’s was born. Fast forward a few years, restaurants and Fino Pittas and today, the Nando’s PERi-PERi you know and love still pays homage to those roots.
Staff has given verbal assurance of halal status. From the management: 'Our halal chicken is authorised by leading Halal Food Authorities. The quality, welfare and health of our chicken is a priority and our UK suppliers follow the strict Red Tractor Farm Assurance Standards. Our halal chickens are pre-stunned to minimise suffering and fear before they're hand-slaughtered. All our halal products are kept separate at our suppliers and in our distribution centres. And our restaurants with halal-friendly options are only allowed to receive chicken from our approved distribution centre. In these restaurants, we only serve chicken that's certified halal. And as we don’t handle any pork ingredients, there’s no chance of cross-contamination'
Score reflects a halal certificate on file.
Typical Nandos flavor. Halal verified by staff.
Food is very nice, you can't go wrong with any Nando's really
Nice location on Upper Tooting Road so a lot of food places and lots of people on most nights particularly weekends. The mosque is very close by so an extra plus. Food is excellent and typical of the Nandos reputation. The setup of the place lets it down a little since they seem to have packed a few too many chairs and tables into too small an area leading to somewhat tight situations. Also there is always the Nandos alcohol serving factor that you may want to consider ...
We went to Nando’s last night for dinner after planning it for over a month and were excited, but unfortunately it was very disappointing. Our first table had 2 ants crawling on it and staff didn’t seem particularly concerned when we raised this and asked to move tables. After ordering, we waited 30 minutes without even receiving cups for drinks and had to chase this up, only to be told there was a minimum 30-minute wait for food. This was something we were never informed of when seated. We eventually received our food after around 40 minutes. My partner’s loaded chips were cold and had to be sent back, and while my chicken thighs and sides were tasty, they were only warm rather than hot in temperature. The restaurant atmosphere also felt tense due to how busy it was, and the stress from both the supervisor and the kitchen was very noticeable. While the waiting staff were apologetic, and the supervisor to some extent, nothing could be done at the time other than advising us to email a complaint. Overall, not the experience we expected, especially for a £40 meal.
